About SCWIST
The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology (SCWIST) is a national non-profit organization working to create an environment where girls, women and gender-diverse individuals in Canada can pursue their interests, education, and careers in STEM without barriers. Our mission is grounded in values of empowerment, inclusion, inspiration, connection, and sustainability. We provide mentorship, leadership development, and outreach programs that encourage participation and excellence in STEM. Through advocacy and partnerships, we work to remove systemic barriers, build inclusive networks, and support long-term career advancement in STEM fields.
Position Overview
SCWIST is seeking collaborative and community-based Engagement Coordinators from five (5) regions: Atlantic, ON, MB & SK, AB & BC, and Northern Canada.
Regional Engagement Coordinators will support a multi-year initiative focused on empowering Canadian youth and developing a diverse new generation of STEM leaders. Through flexible volunteer service placements, girls, women and gender-diverse individuals aged 14 to 30 will build essential skills to influence STEM knowledge and policy. In partnership with Canada Service Corps, the initiative will increase participation from Indigenous, Black, racialized, newcomer, 2SLGBTQI+ communities, and youth who experience disability, neurodivergence, or other forms of difference that shape their participation.
The ideal candidate will be a relationship-driven, digitally-savvy individual with experience working with volunteers and engaging youth from Indigenous and equity-deserving communities. They are passionate about inclusion, skilled in outreach, and understand the systemic barriers faced by volunteer youth participants. They will work closely with SCWIST staff and volunteers to foster collaboration and implement activities across all phases of the project.

- Coordinate logistics for the involvement of volunteer youth participants from across Canada in activities, convenings and conferences.
- Collect impact stories for the purposes of marketing and reporting.
- Monitor project progress through accurate data collection for program evaluation outcomes and impact metrics.
- Meet reporting deadlines and successfully complete project activities on time according to the work plan.
- Use project management and organizational systems tools to steward volunteer youth participants, track work plans, and report to supervisors on progress and evaluation (such as Asana, BetterImpact, VolunteerHub, Google Workspace, Power BI).
- Some travel will be required as needed regionally or nationally to attend meetings, convenings or conferences.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience in volunteer coordination, youth engagement, community outreach or program delivery, preferably in a non-profit or equity-focused environment.
- Lived experience or deep understanding of barriers faced by equity-deserving groups, including Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities, 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, persons with disabilities, newcomers to Canada and those facing barriers to employment or education.
- Passionate about SCWIST’s mission and values, with a commitment to advancing equity and inclusion in STEM.
- Background or experience in STEM is considered an asset.
- Strong relationship building skills with the ability to engage and support volunteer participants in a respectful, inclusive and creative manner.
