Role Summary

Vantage Point provides a range of learning opportunities and training to non-profit leaders, including foundational workshops, advanced labs for executive directors and board chairs, and customized training for organizational clients. Programming spans the areas of board governance, leadership, planning, and people engagement, and are delivered primarily as live, interactive sessions—in person and virtually. As a member of the Education and Consulting team, the Education Program Specialist is responsible for assuring our educational products, programming, and content are relevant, current, and embed a strong Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) lens. The successful team member will initiate new and update existing educational curriculum and content with the support of Vantage Point knowledge philanthropists (skilled volunteers).

Role Responsibilities

Education Program/Product Management

  • Oversee Vantage Point’s portfolio of education programming (i.e., workshops, labs, and custom training), ensuring that all products are high quality and aligned with our brand and organizational culture, driving high participation and satisfaction levels.
  • Regularly review and update language, imagery, and frameworks used in our education materials to ensure and maintain strong equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and cultural safety.
  • Work with staff across teams and knowledge philanthropists to (re)design curriculum and resources to meet the learning needs and priorities of board members, staff, and volunteers of BC non-profits.
  • Maintain and periodically update all evaluation approaches, methods, and tools related to our education programming.
  • Lead the development and analysis of an annual survey to the non-profit community on priorities and needs for education and capacity-building.
  • Monitor participant survey results to incorporate feedback into education materials and raise important issues to the Education and Consulting team.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate emerging trends in the areas of governance, leadership, management, and organizational capacity building - or other emerging topic areas - into new or modified educational products and programming, in collaboration with the Director of Education and Consulting.
  • Integrate adult learning theory, universal design for learning, and innovative delivery approaches to ensure each offering provides an outstanding customer experience and high level of impact in alignment with Vantage Point’s Strategic Plan.
  • Work with the Director of Operations and Communications and Communications and Communications and Marketing Specialist to ensure materials are aligned with the VP brand, including visual identity and accessibility.

Facilitator Support and Facilitation

  • Support Client Leads in identifying/developing learning outcomes that meet the unique needs of custom training client organizations.
  • Draft customized training materials that address all learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate high-quality training sessions and workshops for leaders and board members from non-profit organizations, as needed (e.g., pilot sessions or backup).
  • For major labs, organize debrief sessions for facilitators as a space for reflection and shared learnings.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support the development and delivery of the annual BC Non-Profit Leadership Conference (BCNPLC), including participating in the programming committee to help shape session topics and themes, and coordinating session leads who work with presenters on content preparation and logistics.
  • Manage and facilitate a monthly Education Program team meeting where emerging questions and topics are brought forward and discussed by staff.
  • Share insights from education program feedback, program demand, and trends in learning needs and priorities to internal meetings with other Vantage Point teams.
  • Support Knowledge Philanthropist communities of practice and other forums for facilitator development, as needed.
  • Supervise students, interns and other project-based team members, on occasion.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Education in a relevant field such as adult education, instructional design, nonprofit management, or a related area, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory and universal design for learning.
  • 3+ years' experience and knowledge of the non-profit environment, as an employee or volunteer.
  • Knowledge of non-profit organizational capacity, including governance, leadership, systems, resourcing and management.
  • Depth of experience in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), such as formal training and/or relevant lived experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in instructional design of synchronous learning opportunities, including designing and implementing highly engaging and interactive materials.
  • Familiarity with case studies and scenario-based learning is an asset.
  • Personal commitment to ongoing learning and delivering work with excellence.
  • Strong team-building ethic with the ability to develop, motivate and coach integrated teams of employees and knowledge philanthropists to deliver high quality work.
  • Project management experience, or the ability to lead multiple complex pieces of work in an organized and effective manner.
  • High aptitude for technology, including Microsoft Office Suite (including PowerPoint), E-Learning Software (such as Zoom, Thinkific, and Adobe), and CRM Software (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Demonstrated in-person and virtual facilitation skills.

Role Compensation and Requirements

This is a full-time, permanent position (35 hours/weekly with extended health benefits, including enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan after 3 months.

The position is in job range G according to our People Policies which has a hiring range of $68,950-$76,600. We operate with a hybrid working model that combines remote work with 2 to 3 days of on-site office work during a regular work week for full-time employees. A minimum of 2 days per week in office is expected for this position.
