Location: Remote – anywhere in Canada

Type: Consultancy – March 2, 2026, until December 1, 2026

Position Summary

Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) seeks a fluently bilingual (French–English) education consultant to lead the development and revision of a suite of French-language Global Citizenship Education (GCE) learning materials for Grades 6–12, in collaboration with the Quebec Association of International Cooperation Organizations (AQOCI), and its collective of partner organizations.

The consultant will:

  • Co-create three new classroom resources
  • Revise three existing classroom resources
  • Develop corresponding provincial curriculum maps
  • Design six educator seminar-style professional learning workshops

All materials will be developed in French and later translated into English for national distribution.

Background and Context

The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a group of private, international, non- denominational agencies working to improve living conditions and expand opportunities for people in the developing world. Its organizations operate across sectors including education, health, economic development, civil society, and culture.

Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is an international development organization and registered charity that partners with communities, governments, and businesses to advance inclusive development in Africa and Asia while engaging Canadians in global issues.

Within Canada, AKFC’s Public Engagement and Resource Mobilization department develops educational programming and learning materials to support youth and educators in understanding sustainable development and global citizenship.

To strengthen its French-language educational offerings, AKFC is seeking a consultant with demonstrated expertise in curriculum development and Global Citizenship Education to enhance and expand its pan-Canadian classroom resources.

Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of this consultancy is to strengthen the pedagogical coherence, relevance, and accessibility of AKFC’s French-language Global Citizenship Education resources.

The consultant will:

  • Review and update three existing classroom resources
  • Develop three new classroom resources
  • Integrate an intersectional gender equality lens across all materials
  • Develop province-specific curriculum maps aligned to Grades 6–12
  • Develop six educator seminar-style professional learning workshops
  • Collaborate with AKFC staff to ensure alignment with brand, editorial, safeguarding, and gender equality policies

All materials must support measurable learning outcome achievement across provincial curricula and foster critical thinking, global awareness, and action-oriented learning.

  • Identify gaps, rewrite requirements, and gender lens enhancements
  • Submit structured review memo and workplan refinement

Review and revision plan (written summary)

Phase 2: Revision of Three Existing Resources March 16 – April 17, 2026

Estimated Level of Effort: 10 days

  • Revise and update content, working closely with AQOCI’s team
  • Update statistics, links, examples, and visuals
  • Strengthen experiential and action-based learning components
  • Integrate gender lens improvements

Phase 3: Development of Three New Resources April 20 – May 15, 2026

Estimated Level of Effort: 15 days

  • In close collaboration with AQOCI and partners, co-create three full classroom resources in French
  • Draft engaging activities, discussion guides,
  • Integrate gender equality and inclusive learning approaches

Phase 4: Curriculum Mapping May 18 – June 5, 2026

Estimated Level of Effort: 7 days

  • Develop province-specific curriculum maps
  • Identify cross-disciplinary alignment (e.g., Social Studies, Geography, Civics, Humanities)
  • Produce educator-facing alignment tables

Phase 5: Educator Seminar Development June 8 – July 10, 2026

Estimated Level of Effort: 6 days

  • Develop six seminar-style workshop outlines
  • Create structured facilitator guides
  • Design slide-ready content demonstrating learning outcome alignment
  • Include educator reflection and application components

Phase 6: Feedback Integration and Finalization September 1 – October 2, 2026

Estimated Level of Effort: 4 days

  • Incorporate consolidated AKFC and AQOCI feedback
  • Finalize French content
  • Review post-design proofs
  • Provide final versions for translation and publication

Duration of Activities

This consultancy will begin on March 2, 2026, and end on December 1, 2026.

Qualifications

The consultant should be an experienced education professional with demonstrated expertise in developing high-quality, curriculum-aligned learning resources that explore international development and global citizenship themes. The consultant/team must have the technical skills and capacity to deliver the scope of work and outputs, in particular:

  • Fluency in French (written and spoken) with demonstrated experience drafting pedagogical materials in French for youth and educator audiences. Professional working proficiency in English is required.
  • A degree in Education, International Development, or a related field, and a strong understanding of contemporary pedagogical approaches, including experiential learning, inquiry-based learning, and critical thinking frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum-aligned educational resources for youth (particularly ages 12–18) within a Canadian context, with familiarity across multiple provincial curricula considered an asset.
  • Experience designing and facilitating professional learning workshops or training sessions for educators, including the development of seminar- style or presentation-ready materials.
  • Strong creative and instructional design skills, with the ability to develop innovative, interactive, and action-oriented learning experiences that support measurable learning outcomes.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize complex international development topics and translate them into interdisciplinary, age-appropriate learning materials.
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender equality, inclusive education, and intersectional approaches, with experience integrating these principles into curriculum development.
  • Strong cultural awareness and experience working in diverse linguistic and cultural environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of precision and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in digital tools and platforms used to develop and deliver educational resources, including multimedia and online learning environments.
