We are looking for dynamic, committed individual who is interested in succeeding the volunteer Board Chair of this community healthcare non-profit, Ewart Angus Homes/Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home, providing dementia services in North York, Ontario. In addition to your passion for the dementia healthcare sector, you enjoy developing a Board and being hands on in supporting the organization to develop and flourish.

As the leader of the Board of Directors, you will be part of the dedicated team responsible for overall governance and stewardship of Ewart Angus Home Incorporated, including Cedarhurst Dementia Care Home. The role is also hands-on in leading the Executive Director.
You will take on the following responsibilities:
- Provide strategic thought leadership-at-large to support plan development and implementation
- Ensure the Home is complying with relevant legislation and policies
- Optimize program models and operations plan execution.
- Monitor organizational and operational risk and progress towards goals
- Hire, evaluate and lead the Executive Director
- Contribute advice from your experience and field of expertise when applicable
- Keep focus on the 5-Year Strategic plan to deepen sustainability and evolve along the continuum of care
- Lead capital planning and property management
- Continue to evolve the Board towards
You are able to commit to:
- 6 months of succession shadowing and a subsequent three-year term
- Preparing for and leading bi-monthly board meetings in the evenings
- Participating on several board committees and contributing to small Board-level initiatives/projects
- Supporting the ED as their primary executive leader
Qualifications
You have the following skills, qualifications and experience:
- Board leadership and governance experience, ideally supported by your professional executive leadership role.
- Enthusiasm, passion and understanding of the issues affecting people living with dementia and their families. Lived experience from a family member or friend living with dementia is even better.
- Must be located in Toronto to be able to attend meetings and events on site at York Mills/Bayview Avenue.
- Experience in healthcare and property/facilities planning could be very advantageous.
- Forward thinking ability and desire to work collaboratively
- Willingness to sponsor and advocate for the organization, at the same time as be hands on when required.
