Chalmers is recruiting a Donation and Communication Coordinator!

Do you have an empathetic attitude? Are you interested in participating in a local non-profit organization that advocates for food security and provides food for all? You may be the person Chalmers is looking for!

About us

Chalmers is a local non-profit organization situated in Guelph, Ontario. At Chalmers, we provide three food pantries a week and two drop in morning cafés. Our guests can come every other week for groceries. We do not conduct a means test. Our drop in cafés are very busy and we work hard to build a community based on dignity and respect for all.

What we offer

  • An in-person position at our Downtown location
  • A part-time position: 23 hours weekly, starting mid-June.
  • Hourly wage: $24. 00
  • The hours of work are typically during the daytime. Some evenings can be required during fundraising events ( approx. 3-5 times per year)
  • Statutory holidays, 2 weeks of vacation. Vacation increases with years in the organization.
  • 5 personal days per calendar year (sick leave, moving, family events).
  • Health and dental benefits after 3 months.

Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Donation and Communication Coordinator (DCC) develops and maintains the donor database and provides communication support for Chalmers. This person ensures efficient and timely processing of donor information and donations (online, through different platforms, by mail or in person) and developing communication with our donors and partners (newsletter, social media posts and other material).

The DCC works closely with the ED, all staff members and the Board. This position requires excellent communication skills, the ability to provide basic monetary information, and the ability to prioritize tasks.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop our communication material and communicate it to our donors and partners
  • Answer the phone
  • Work closely with the ED to implement donor and communication strategies
  • Create, write, and publish Chalmers’ online newsletter, social media posts (including videos) and design printed materials such as brochures and the annual report
  • Maintain the website
  • Maintain the donor database
  • Edit and send the charitable receipts
  • Provide all monetary information to the Bookkeeper
  • In collaboration with the ED, issue statistics and provide charts and visual documents for the Board of Directors, donors, and partners
  • Prepare and provide the information for grant applications when required
  • Attend weekly meetings and report to the Executive Director
  • Attend monthly team meetings
  • Provide monthly donation and communication reports to the ED for the Board of Directors
  • Assist other staff when needed with food intake

What you will bring

  • Experience is an asset but not mandatory
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google products (Word, Google Drive, Gmail), Canva, Mailchimp, Wix
  • A commitment to quality service and ethical best practice
  • Creativity, imagination, and sense of esthetic
  • Strong written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment: empathy, non-violent communication, and patience are mandatory
  • Curiosity, a strong desire to learn and share knowledge and ideas with the team

What we will be happy to see in your resume

  • Experience with a non-profit organization
  • Web design experience or certificate / diploma is an asset
  • Experience in Microsoft and Google products
  • Knowledge of issues related to food security or income security and inequity
  • Volunteering experience (in Canada or abroad)
  • Any other language than English is an asset
