Dog Shelter Manager (Unpaid Volunteer)

Join us as the Dog Shelter Manager and help ensure our dog shelter operates smoothly by overseeing inventory, supplies, donations, and facility needs. You'll work closely with the Dog Team, Facilities Team, and other volunteers to make sure our dogs and volunteers have the resources they need every day.

Reports to: Dog Senior Manager

What You'll Do

Manage Shelter Inventory & Supplies

• Monitor inventory levels of dog food, cleaning supplies, enrichment items, volunteer supplies, and other shelter essentials.
• Organize and maintain storage areas to ensure supplies are accessible and well stocked.
• Identify replenishment needs and communicate purchasing requirements, inventory updates, and supply concerns to the Dog Senior Manager and appropriate teams.

Coordinate Donations

• Receive, organize, and sort donated items.
• Determine which donations can be used by the shelter and coordinate storage or redistribution as needed.
• Maintain an organized donation area to support efficient shelter operations.

Support Shelter Operations

• Work with the Dog Senior Manager and other Dog Team Managers to monitor the overall condition of the dog shelter and identify operational needs.
• Coordinate facilities and maintenance requests for repairs or improvements, while collaborating with the Facilities Team, Dog Team, and volunteers to support daily shelter operations and ensure timely resolution of issues.

Support Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve shelter organization and operational processes.
• Recommend practical solutions that enhance efficiency and support volunteers in their daily work.

Time Commitment

Approximately 4-6 hours per week, flexible, partially on-site with some remote coordination as needed.

Qualifications

• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
• Strong inventory management skills and ability to keep the dog shelter environment organized.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with volunteers across teams.
• Reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented.
• Previous dog volunteer or shelter experience is an asset.
• Passion for animal welfare and supporting volunteer operations.
• Experience coordinating operations, inventory, facilities, or logistics is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to identify operational issues and proactively develop solutions.
• Ability to work collaboratively while exercising sound judgment and initiative.
