
Director, Workplace Mental Health
ABOUT THE JOB:
The Director, Workplace Mental Health is responsible to implement a one-year operational plan with a focus on leading and strengthening CMHA BC’s workplace mental health portfolio. Key priorities will include strategic business development of the workplace mental health fee for service area at a provincial level and restructuring of existing programs with a lens to long term sustainability.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Programs, the Director of Workplace Mental Health will be focused on ensuring CMHA BC programs and services are sustainable, and as responsive as possible to the diversity of people in British Columbia. The Director is an experienced leader with business acumen and a deep passion for the community mental health and substance use sector, who is committed to making an impact.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Planning and Business Development
- Deliver on an operational plan to secure the financial health and sustainability of CMHA BC’s fee-for-service workplace education social enterprise.
- Support the restructuring of Workplace Mental Health programming with a focus on strengthening long-term sustainability and to maximize program impact.
- Present to diverse audiences, including at conferences, on the impacts of the Workplace Mental Health departments.
- Co-design plans to maximize fee for service opportunities to reinforce the financial health of the workplace mental health portfolio.
- Oversee short- and long-term design, development, and delivery of educational programs across both internal and external workforce training focused on workplace mental health.
Partnership Support and Knowledge Exchange
- Maintain strong relationships with funders and implementation partners to cultivate expansion and deepening of the reach of the Association’s workplace mental health portfolio.
- Identify, build, and maintain strong and sustainable relationships with communities and relevant organizations in the public, non-profit and private sectors.
- Participate actively as the lead agency representative in relevant networks and at strategic tables.
- Oversee the facilitation of regular training, orientation, and strategic support to relevant communities of practice.
- Collaborate meaningfully with CMHA branches in projects, priority-setting, and consensus-building.
- Develop and deliver effective mental health presentations at strategic senior tables.
- Promote resources to key audiences across the CMHA federation.
Program Oversight, Risk Management and Quality Assurance
- Develop procedures, models, and comprehensive frameworks of delivery.
- Ensure effective, efficient program delivery and ongoing attention to quality improvement.
- Oversee the implementation and monitoring of the programs’ strategic plans, including progress on goals and objectives.
- Set and continually manage project expectations with internal and external team members and service users.
- Develop best practices for project execution and management to ensure consistent quality, responsiveness, and accountability.
- Actively evaluate risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action and accountability to mitigate risks, including in areas such as privacy, safety, accuracy of clinical content, intellectual property, infrastructure, human-resources, and other operational concerns.
- Implement an evaluation and consultation plan annually that solicits and acts on input from service users, service providers and other stakeholders around program enhancements.
- Apply a program evaluation framework, with special attention to health equity and inclusion, to assess the outputs, outcomes and impacts of the programs; direct needed changes and improvements.
- Remain up to date with current best practices in workplace mental health.
Financial Management and Fund Development
- Source, secure and steward government, foundation, and fee-for-service funding for all workplace mental health programs.
- Lead preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor revenue performance and take corrective action as needed to ensure targets are met.
- Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements, including financial reports, and compelling narrative reports and proposals.
- Work directly with program managers to ensure that the programs operate within the approved budgets; recommend remedial action when necessary.
- Craft and administer contracts with consultants and vendors and memoranda of understanding with strategic partners.
- Lead implementation and evaluation of programs through collaboration with program leaders and other relevant stakeholders, including funding partners.
Human Resource Management
- Provides overall leadership and direction for team members using effective management techniques (e.g., coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, decision making, coalition building and performance management to support the achievement of required outcomes.
- Oversee all HR management functions for the team includes recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management, disciplinary action, employee engagement and conflict resolution
- Administer human resources and collective agreement policies and procedures and ensure compliance with compliance policies and applicable laws
- Foster and encourage an environment which promotes a team approach to planning and development, service delivery and problem solving and that values psychological health and safety, equity and diversity.
- Other human resources management duties as required.

ABOUT YOU:
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree or equivalent training and experience, in a relevant discipline such as business administration, or public administration.
- At least 5-7 years progressive experience in a senior role with direct supervisory or team leadership experience, with the proven ability to lead, motivate, resolve conflict, and lead a high performing team in a unionized environment.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of workplace mental health promotion particularly in multiple settings or with various populations.
- Knowledge of the mental health and substance use service systems in BC
- Experience with marketing and fund development, including experience leading and setting the strategic direction for a social enterprise.
- Financial management expertise, including experience with budgeting, forecasting, and efficiently managing financial resources.
- Advanced presentation skills, comfortable presenting in front of multiple stakeholder groups and public speaking in a variety of settings.
- Ability to manage conflict and navigate difficult conversations professionally.
- Experience with change management and navigating complex dynamic systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with multiple communities, partners, clients and stakeholders while balancing assertiveness and diplomacy.
- Excellent project management and leadership skills, including project planning, resource and financial management, and effective communication skills for successful project delivery.
- Researching and identifying funding sources, proposal writing, reporting to funders, and designing sustainable fee-for-service programs.
- Experience with setting and creatively meeting fee-for-service revenue targets.
- Knowledge of developing and maintaining data-collection and reporting mechanisms on program/project metrics.
- Providing strategic and timely advice to executive leadership.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and external business units.
- Ability to prioritize high volumes of time-sensitive and confidential work to meet operational deadlines.
- Strategic and conceptual thinking and analysis, including ability to adapt programs and program delivery based on organizational or public need, outcome, or opportunity.
- Superior communication skills, both orally and in writing including plain language writing and editing and presentation and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
- Ability to function with a high degree of tact and diplomacy and handle sensitive and confidential information and matters in a trusted and responsible manner.
- Ability and confidence to work in a self-directed manner and lead large-scale provincial initiatives.

- Successful completion of background screening checks including a criminal record check and education verification.
Assets
- Personal experience with mental illness and or addiction, either through self or a loved one, is an asset.
- Experience managing in a unionized work environment.
- Knowledge of the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety and best practices in the application of the standard in workplaces.
Working conditions
- This position is one (1) year term, and it is full-time.
- The usual work week is 37.5 hours, and regular business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- The position can be based out of the Vancouver or Victoria office and offers the potential for a flexible working arrangement, including working remotely depending on project needs.
- The position requires occasional flexibility to travel.
- Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $ 110,000.00
- Typical Hiring Range: $ 100,000.00 - $108,000.00
