Call for Board Director Applications – Inanna Publications/Canadian Woman Studies Journal

Inanna Publications, proud publisher of the Canadian Woman Studies Journal as well as feminist fiction and nonfiction books, is looking for up to three new Board Directors.

Inanna is one of Canada’s oldest independent feminist publishers. We publish books that speak to the diverse lives of women in Canada and beyond. We also publish the Canadian Woman Studies Journal, a community-centered academic and literary journal. We are entering an exciting new chapter in our journey, and we are looking for your help!

Inanna’s Board is guided by values like belonging, transparency, consent, care, compassion, and accountability. The Board is also working to challenge and change colonial, racist, and capitalist ways of doing things in its own work. At this time, Inanna especially welcomes applications from Black, Indigenous, and other racialized people of any gender located anywhere in Canada who are excited about feminist publishing and justice-focused community work.

Inanna is also looking for at least one Board Director who has governance/compliance experience with:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) policy making
  • Cybersecurity (keeping systems and information safe)
  • Privacy and data (how information about people is collected, stored, and used)

We welcome applicants with professional experience as directors but also those who bring lived experience, community leadership, work experience, or a strong commitment to feminist, anti-oppressive, and trauma-informed ways of working together. Directors must be at least 18 and willing to act in good faith in the best interests of Inanna Publications.

Directors are elected for a two-year term. Directors can expect to spend about 3–6 hours a month on meeting time, reading, and other Board work. Meetings happen during working hours and are online. Accessibility requirements will be accommodated to the best of our ability. Directors are not paid, but reasonable governance work related expenses can be covered based on Board policy and charitable organization law.

If you're wondering if you've got the right background for this opportunity, here are some examples of the people we'd love to hear from:

  • An experienced volunteer who has worked in feminist, LGBT, or social advocacy spaces
  • Teachers, mentors, and coaches
  • Authors and editors who are interested in both the creative and business side of publishing
  • Community organizers and/or fundraising experts
  • Graduate students in the humanities, gender studies, or literature
  • Finance experience
  • Fundraising, grant writing experience

If you are interested in helping shape the future of feminist publishing in Canada and supporting a community that centers care, justice, and accountability, Inanna would love to hear from you.

To apply, please email your contact information, plus a short statement about why you are interested and a brief bio, resume or CV to inanna.publications@inanna.caby July 31st, 2026. Interviews will occur between August 15th and August 30th, 2026.
