Black Engineers of Canada (BEC) is a Not-for-Profit Professional Organization geared towards providing a safe environment for Black Engineers where they can aspire and become a better version of themselves. We empower and uplift the Black Engineers community, including youth and aspiring engineers, by advocating for equitable opportunities, enhancing living conditions, and promoting mental health improvement. We achieve this through robust mentorship programs, impactful networking events, innovative educational initiatives, safe spaces for difficult conversations, and dedicated research efforts. We are committed to leveraging all our human and financial resources towards realizing a stronger, and more inclusive community.

The Opportunity

We are searching for a Director of Membership & Enrolment (Volunteer) who will handle the following responsibilities by dedicating 5 hours weekly of volunteer time.

Role Summary

The Director, Programs & Mentorship is responsible for developing and executing BEC's national program strategy, ensuring the delivery of innovative, scalable, and measurable programs that support member engagement, professional growth, leadership development, and community impact. The incumbent will oversee the full lifecycle of BEC programs—from strategy and design through implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement—while building strong partnerships with industry leaders, academic institutions, employers, and community stakeholders.

As a key member of BEC's leadership team, the Director will contribute to organizational planning, operational excellence, and the achievement of BEC's strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Re-imagine, update, execute and maintain BEC's 7 - 9 programs strategically aligned with organizational goals, member needs, and industry trends.
  • Establish annual program objectives, budgets, KPIs, and performance measures to ensure sustainable and measurable impact.
  • Oversee program quality, participant experience, scalability, risk management, and operational effectiveness across all initiatives.
  • Build and lead a team of program coordinators (volunteers) to manage, coordinate, run and ensure program's success per set objectives
  • Ensure programs are designed for consistent and recurrent delivery for BEC members and the relevant public (private and public organizations) to make the programs deliver value in line with BEC mission, value for relevant public and revenue generating for BEC.
  • Collaborate actively with cross-functional directors to ensure the marketing, sale and delivery of BEC programs to members and the external public
  • Oversee the documentation of programs internally and externally on the BEC website for easy accessibility and registration by members
  • Collaborate in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with employers, educational institutions, sponsors, industry leaders, and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to secure funding, sponsorships, and resources that support program growth and long-term sustainability.
  • Establish and program analytics, including participation, engagement, satisfaction, retention, and career progression metrics, while providing regular impact reports and recommendations to leadership and the Board.
  • Work closely with the BEC leadership to ensure programs and delivering the strategic goals of the organization

Qualifications

Required

  • Qualification in program management, talent development, learning & development, community engagement, engineering, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience leading projects, programs, teams, or strategic initiatives in an organization.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience designing, developing and evaluating programs using measurable outcomes and performance metrics.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving abilities.
