The opportunity

Kids Help Phone Foundation is seeking a Director, Philanthropy to help inspire generosity and raise funds across Canada to deliver on KHP’s promise to youth.

Reporting to the Vice President, Philanthropy, the successful candidate will oversee philanthropic and major giving activity at Kids Help Phone Foundation. This role will personally manage $1M+ in annualized revenue and lead a high-performing team of two Senior Development Officers and one Senior Development Manager based in Toronto to achieve team revenue goals.

This role is a blend of hands-on major gift fundraising, team leadership, and cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will work closely with Foundation senior leadership and volunteers to cultivate and close transformational gifts, build and manage giving pipelines, and translate strategic priorities into actionable plans for major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The responsibilities

  • Lead the overall major giving strategy for Individuals and Foundations, working closely with the VP, Philanthropy and Senior Advancement Leadership Team to develop and execute revenue and pipeline plans.
  • Partner with the Senior Director, Strategy & Donor Experience to ensure major gift strategies align with broader advancement priorities, donor experience initiatives, and campaign architecture.
  • Manage a portfolio of high-value donors, with accountability for securing $1M+ in annualized revenue and support the VP and senior leadership in closing transformational commitments.
  • Lead and coach a team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation, while providing guidance to meet revenue goals and best practices in donor engagement.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors with a personalized, donor-centric approach.
  • Oversee revenue and expense planning for major gift streams, ensuring staff complete required plans for consolidated review.
  • Inspire and engage Kids Help Phone staff, supporters, and collaborators to maximize their contribution to the organization’s vision and mission.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of donor engagement and progress through CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge).
  • Provide fundraising thought leadership, guidance, and advice to address national and regional priorities, and consult with leadership on issues with broader implications.
  • Maintain awareness of trends and developments in non-profit management, programming, and major gifts.
  • Embody Kids Help Phone’s vision and values internally and externally.

The qualifications

  • University graduate with 7–10 years of professional fundraising experience, including at least one year managing a team of development professionals
  • Proven ability to identify, cultivate, and close major gift funding relationships, with a track record of achieving revenue targets
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience coaching, mentoring, and supervising frontline fundraisers
  • Familiarity with comprehensive fundraising functions, regulations, and standards, including Imagine Canada Standards
  • Experience working with a non-profit Board of Directors and senior-level advisory volunteers
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences
  • Results-oriented, entrepreneurial, and solution-focused approach to fundraising and problem-solving
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities and manage departmental or project budgets
  • Proficient in standard business, marketing, and project management tools, including CRM systems
  • Commitment to the vision, values, and goals of Kids Help Phone Foundation
  • CFRE designation considered an asset
  • Experience in campaign fundraising is considered an asset.
