Black Engineers of Canada (BEC) is a Not-for-Profit Professional Organization geared towards providing a safe environment for Black Engineers where they can aspire and become a better version of themselves. We empower and uplift the Black Engineers community, including youth and aspiring engineers, by advocating for equitable opportunities, enhancing living conditions, and promoting mental health improvement.
We achieve this through robust mentorship programs, impactful networking events, innovative educational initiatives, safe spaces for difficult conversations, and dedicated research efforts. We are committed to leveraging all our human and financial resources towards realizing a stronger, and more inclusive community.
The Opportunity
We are searching for a Director of Membership & Enrolment (Volunteer) who will handle the following responsibilities by dedicating 10 hours weekly of volunteer time.
Role Summary
As the Director of Membership & Enrolment, you will lead strategy and execution for attracting, enrolling, engaging, and retaining BEC members. You will own the full membership lifecycle—from outreach and onboarding to renewals and community engagement—and partner closely with programs, fundraising, and partnerships to grow a vibrant, diverse, and mission-aligned membership base.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute recruitment and retention strategies that align with BEC’s vision, mission and strategic goals.
- Set and track enrolment, retention, and revenue targets.
- Oversee outreach, lead generation, and enrolment campaigns (digital, partnerships, events).
- Design onboarding, communications, and engagement journeys to increase retention.
- Lead and develop the membership/enrolment team.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Fundraising, Partnerships and Programs.
- Own BEC’s Association Management System (AMS) and champion best practices to maintain data quality.
- Use analytics to guide decision making and generate reports and presentations for volunteers, senior leadership, the Board, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Experience in membership, marketing or business development roles.
- People management experience.
- Proven track record of growing and retaining member communities.
- Strong data literacy; experience using AMS.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Familiarity with community-based outreach and partnerships.
- Experience with marketing and lifecycle campaigns.
