
Director of Marketing
OPPI is seeking a proven marketing leader to elevate our brand, guide a talented team, and play a central role in our 2026 rebrand. It’s a rare opportunity to shape how an entire profession is represented. The Director of Marketing will combine strategic insight with creative expertise to strengthen our voice, connect with diverse audiences, and deliver data-driven campaigns that recruit, retain, and inspire members.
PRIMARY CONTRIBUTION
The Director of Marketing is the driving force behind OPPI’s voice and visibility. This leader elevates the brand, brings the story of planning to life, and curates content that connects with every audience we serve. By uniting strategy with creativity, they recruit and retain members, inspire engagement, and champion the profession. With a major rebrand launching in 2026, they will translate a fresh identity into bold campaigns that strengthen OPPI’s impact and ensure the organization speaks with clarity, energy, and purpose.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Strategic Leadership & Planning
- Inspire and mentor a young team to build confidence, collaboration, and creativity.
- Lead OPPI’s brand strategy and deliver multi-year marketing campaigns, including the 2026 rebrand launch.
- Champion the planner’s voice by staying current with industry trends and elevating member perspectives.
- Build relationships with volunteers, contributors, and external partners to amplify OPPI’s initiatives.
- Integrate innovative practices into communication frameworks while anticipating risks and protecting reputation.
- Provide responsive marketing support to departments and foster collaboration across the organization.
- Set goals, track metrics, and manage budgets to ensure data-driven results and fiscal accountability.
- Play a lead role in OPPI’s 2026 rebrand — a once-in-a-career opportunity to shape how an entire profession is represented to the world.
Operational Management
- Direct annual marketing and communication work plans to achieve organizational objectives.
- Implement a communications calendar and project management system to improve efficiency and member focus.
- Negotiate/maintain software and vendor contracts; ensure departmental policies and procedures are up to date.
Designated Assignments & Committees
- Publisher of Y-Magazine (twice annually).
- Oversee newsletters and publications to ensure curated, audience-specific content.
- Lead media relations for key initiatives, conferences, and awards.
- Chair the new Career Path Programming Committee (launching Sept 2025)
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s in communications, marketing, or PR. 10+ years in marketing leadership, ideally in an association or nonprofit.
- Expertise: Brand management, digital strategy, publication oversight, client-side marketing experience preferred.
- Strengths: Employee & volunteer engagement, planning immersion, stakeholder relations, and relationship-building.
- Style: Energetic, inspiring leader with excellent writing, speaking, and team development skills.
- Technical: Microsoft Office, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, analytics tools, project management software, social media platforms.
REPORTING STRUCTURE, WORK SETTING & COMPENSATION
Reports To: Executive Director
Direct Reports: one
Physical / Environment: Office
80% Stationary Position, operate a computer / phone
20% Move/Traverse, attend internal and external meetings
Hours of Work: Core business hours of the Institute are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Staff are expected to work 35 hours per week within these core business hours. OPPI operates within a hybrid work policy.
Compensation:
- OPPI Perk Days – Closed for Christmas Holiday period and extra day off on long weekends.
- Eligible for health benefits after 3 months, including dental, vision, paramedical and medicine.
- RRSP matching program after 6 months.
- Travel reimbursed at $0.55/km.
- PTO annual allowance begins with 17 days per year
