
Director of Learning and Development
The Canadian Association for Supported Employment (CASE) is seeking a strategic Director of Learning and Development. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director will provide vision, leadership, and oversight for CASE’s learning initiatives, ensuring alignment with our mission, values, and strategic priorities. This role requires a seasoned leader with proven experience in Learning and Development, team management, and the not-for-profit sector. The Director of Learning and Development is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the Learning and Development team, in collaboration with the Executive Director, and for managing day to day activities and staff to operationalize that vision. They are responsible for ensuring that Learning and Development activities and offerings are in alignment with CASE’s strategic vision and values, the 9 Guiding Principles of Supported Employment, and best practice in adult education and accessibility, and are an integral part of the CASE leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the activities and outputs of the L&D staff team, contractors, and consultants to ensure successful completion of projects and all promised deliverables on time, within budget, and as agreed upon.
- Provide information and updates regarding L&D activities, outputs, outcomes, and financials to CASE leadership and other interest-holders, either directly or indirectly through other CASE project teams as appropriate.
- Carry out planning and implementation of L&D activities in ways that uphold the values of CASE, the 9 Guiding Principles, and best practices in adult education and accessibility.
- Oversee the planning, building / upgrading and maintenance of the CASE website in collaboration with the Executive Director and with support of the Web Developer, paying particular attention to user experience, accessibility, and security.
- Actively engage as a contributing member of the CASE leadership team, including upholding association values and contributing to the development of a professional, respectful, and inclusive organizational culture.
Strategic Planning
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and informed by emerging trends, best practice, and opportunities in adult education, engage in strategic planning for L&D and CASE to support achievement of board identified strategic goals.
- Research and seek out new funding opportunities to support revenue diversification and growth of CASE through L&D activities. All grant applications will be completed in collaboration with the Executive Director.
- Seek out, establish and nurture partnerships that support achievement of CASE and L&D strategic goals.
Project Management
- Develop L&D project workplans, in collaboration with other CASE staff as appropriate, which map out project objectives, audience, deliverables, key considerations, timeline, budget, etc.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
- Design and oversee evaluation metrics and data collection methodologies for L&D offerings.
- Track, monitor, approve, and address inconsistencies or errors in purchases and recurring expenses related to the CASE web site, LMS, and credit card issued to the Director of Learning and Development, using established processes.
- Oversee quality assurance, on an ongoing basis, for all CASE courses, certificate programs, and other L&D created resources.
Staff Support and Supervision
- Lead the identification, recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of L&D staff and contractors within available resources.
- Maintain accurate human resource documentation for the L&D team staff using established platforms (e.g. BambooHR).
- Support, manage, supervise, and mentor L&D staff and contractors, to ensure that all team members have the required information and resource to carry out their tasks effectively.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and the CASE Staff Leadership Team, develop talent management and change management plans and strategies for CASE.
Technical and Systems Management
- Oversee the CASE learning management system (LMS), including identification and addressing of problems, vulnerabilities, limitations in function, and opportunities for improvement.
- Oversee the CASE website, including identification and addressing of problems, vulnerabilities, limitations in function, and opportunities for improvement.
- Project management of work associated with maintaining and improving the CASE website and LMS, including task tracking, vendor management, documentation, change management, etc.
- Crisis problem-solving of issues related to the website and LMS, with special attention paid to issues of privacy and security.
Association Leadership
- Contribute to defining, building, and maintaining a professional, respectful, and inclusive organizational culture, and the responsive practices that support that culture.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop, implement, and update annually a professional development plan for CASE staff and Board of Directors
- Lead by example through modelling appropriate behaviour, engagement, communication, and responsiveness that reflects CASE values and organizational culture.

Reporting
- This position reports to the Executive Director
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following in their application. Applications that do not meet these requirements will not be considered:
- Minimum 5 years’ management or supervisory experience (with responsibility for staff and/or contractors).
- Minimum 3 years’ direct Learning & Development experience (curriculum design, training delivery, evaluation).
- Not-for-profit sector experience (employment, leadership, or project management in a mission-driven organization).
- Relevant education (Bachelor’s degree in Education, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or a closely related field).
Additional Assets:
- Fluency in French and English (written and verbal).
- Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) designation.
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills.
- Demonstrated experience with learning management systems, e-learning platforms, and Microsoft 365.
Hours of work and salary:
- This is a full-time position, of 37.5 hours / week.
- The hourly rate is $40.00 - $45.00 based on qualifications
- Three weeks of paid vacation per year, prorated
- $120 / month to support maintenance of a home office, phone and internet
- Comprehensive individual dental, extended health and LTD coverage after completion of 3 months' probation
- 4% RRSP matching after completion of 3 months' probation
