The Director of Financial Planning, Analysis (FP&A) and Reporting is a senior leadership role responsible for elevating the financial intelligence of the organization. Serving as a strategic partner to the CFO and executive leadership team, the Director will own enterprise-wide FP&A and financial reporting, drive high-quality decision-making, and lead a culture of data-driven accountability. This role sits within a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization where financial rigor directly enables program impact and organizational sustainability. This is an ideal opportunity for a high-performing Senior Manager or Manager ready to take full ownership of a finance function and grow into broader CFO-track leadership.

What You Will Do
Strategic Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting
- Own and lead the full annual budgeting cycle, multi-year strategic plans, and rolling reforecast processes across the organization.
- Build and maintain enterprise-grade financial models to support scenario planning, capital allocation, and long-range strategic decisions.
- Deliver executive-ready variance analysis — actuals vs. budget vs. forecast — with clear narrative, root-cause insights, and recommended actions.
- Drive alignment between financial planning and organizational strategy, translating strategic goals into financial targets and operating plans.
Financial Reporting & Close Leadership
- Direct and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycles, including management reporting, Board packages, and statutory filings.
- Partner with the Controller to continuously improve close accuracy, timeliness, and documentation standards.
- Ensure financial reporting is board-ready: precise, transparent, and decision-relevant for the Board, leadership, and key stakeholders.
- Oversee preparation and review of financial analyses, working papers, and audit-support schedules.
Executive Decision Support & Business Partnering
- Serve as the primary finance business partner to program, operations, and executive leadership — translating financial complexity into clear strategic guidance.
- Develop and present forward-looking analyses, sensitivity scenarios, and business cases for growth initiatives, capital investments, and new programs.
- Synthesize complex financial data into compelling narratives and recommendations for non-finance audiences, including the Board of Directors.
- Proactively surface financial risks and opportunities, and recommend mitigation strategies or investment actions.
Strategic Initiatives & Special Projects
- Lead or co-lead strategic finance projects including business transformations, M&A analyses, capital structure reviews, and systems implementations.
- Drive enterprise-wide process redesign initiatives that improve financial visibility, reporting accuracy, and planning agility.
- Prepare and present Board-level materials in partnership with the CFO; act as a credible finance voice in senior leadership forums.
Risk Management, Controls & Financial Integrity
- Strengthen the organization’s financial control environment, ensuring policies, documentation, and processes reduce key-person risk and regulatory exposure.
- Identify and implement improvements to financial systems, tools, and reporting infrastructure to enhance resilience and scalability.
- Champion financial discipline and accountability across all departments and cost centres.
People Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing finance team, establishing clear performance expectations, mentorship structures, and career pathways.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, intellectual curiosity, and financial accountability within Finance and across the organization.
- Build succession depth for Controller and CFO-level responsibilities over time; serve as a visible leadership model for the finance function.
What We Are Looking For
Education & Professional Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics.
- CPA Designation is required
- MBA or graduate-level is a strong differentiator.
Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of progressive finance experience, including 2+ years in a Senior Manager, Manager, or Lead role with direct accountability for FP&A, reporting, or business partnering functions.
- Experience in a complex, multi-entity or multi-location organization (e.g., non-profit, healthcare, retail, logistics, professional services, or regulated industry).
- Hands-on exposure to both FP&A and controllership functions, including: monthly/quarterly close, budgeting & forecasting, management and Board-level reporting.
Technical & Analytical Expertise
- Expert-level financial modeling: scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, DCF, and capital planning models.
- Deep fluency in financial statements, internal controls, GAAP/IFRS principles, and audit support.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; strong experience with ERP systems and reporting platforms (Power BI, Adaptive Insights, Workday, or equivalent).
- Ability to rapidly synthesize large, complex datasets into clear, executive-ready insights and recommendations.
Leadership & Strategic Communication
- Proven ability to influence and advise senior executives and Board members with financial insights and business recommendations.
- Track record of building and leading high-performing finance teams and driving cross-functional collaboration.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; experienced in presenting to Boards, lenders, auditors, and executive committees.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, lead through ambiguity, and make sound decisions under pressure.
