We are currently seeking a Director of Finance & IT. Our Finance Team is located in Sault Ste. Marie, ON; however, consideration will be given to candidates who can attend offices under a hybrid work arrangement in Sault Ste. Marie, Dryden, London, Hamilton, Timmins or Peterborough.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance & IT is an integral operational leader responsible for unifying financial controls, accounting compliance, and enterprise technology infrastructure. This role bridges day-to-day financial operations with IT systems strategy, ensuring fiscal soundness, robust risk management, and scalable technology alignment. The successful candidate will provide CPA-level governance for core financial reporting, directly manage the accounting and IT teams, and act as a key operational lead in modernizing our core systems. The successful candidate will hold an active CPA designation paired with strong systems acumen, bringing an organized, goal oriented, and enthusiastic approach to supporting safe, affordable housing as a stable foundation for Indigenous communities.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
1. Full-Cycle Accounting & Financial Operations
- Oversight: Manage and direct all day-to-day accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Budgeting: Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to establish fiscal targets and monitor performance.
- Month-End & Quarter-End Close: Oversee the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP/ASNPO).
- Audit Management: Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors, coordinating the annual audit process and ensuring all schedules and requests are delivered on time.
2. IT Strategy, Systems Modernization & Legacy Migration
- Systems Leadership: Responsible for implementing and advancing the planning of the organization’s enterprise systems, cloud environment, and IT infrastructure, managing external technology vendors and contracts.
- Digital Transformation: Provides the leadership and technical expertise to effectively leverage internal subject matter experts to guide the organization through system modernization, implementing scalable enterprise software.
- Data Integration & Automation: Direct data governance and synchronization across ERP, housing management, CRM, and payroll systems to eliminate manual processes, improve cross-departmental reporting, and establish a single source of truth.
3. Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A)
- Forecasting: Develop and maintain rolling financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and scenario planning models to support strategic decisions.
- Performance Analysis: Conduct variance analyses (budget vs. actual) and deliver clear, actionable reports to the executive leadership team regarding financial performance and key metrics.
- Strategic Advisory: Build analytical models to evaluate the financial viability of new business initiatives, capital expenditures, and potential investments.
4. Team Leadership & Operational Management
- People Management: Direct, mentor, and build capacity across the core Finance and IT teams (including Finance Operations, Financial Reporting, and IT/Cloud Systems Administration).
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Act as the operational bridge between finance compliance and technology execution, supporting the CFO in delivering organizational transformation initiatives.
To qualify for this role, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Knowledge of and an appreciation for Indigenous culture and a values system that believes in holistic wellness and in assisting people to become and stay safely housed.
- Proven communication skills to distill complex financial and technical information into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders;
- Performance driven, people centered CPA with 8-10 years of progressive management experience as a controller, finance director, or equivalent leadership roles
- Systems Acumen: Demonstrated experience leading ERP/financial system implementations, business process mapping, and technology migrations
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information that must not be shared with others;
- Preference for experience in non-profit organizations, social housing, real estate development, or property management
Conditions of employment:
- Ability to travel throughout the province of Ontario as required (limited);
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License;
- Safe driving record (3 year driver record search);
