KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Association Management
- As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Finance assists in setting the operational vision and planning of the YWCA Toronto in the context of the Association’s Mission Statement and Strategic Plan.
- Leads the implementation of Quality Framework initiatives related to Finance
- Participates in the review and maintenance of the Association’s Risk Management Framework
- As a member of the senior management team, implements the Association’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program
- Acts as a signing officer of the Association.
- Participates, on a rotating basis, as a representative of senior management in Association-wide committees.
- Acts as the senior manager on call on a rotating basis.
Financial and Capital Asset Management
- Ensures that the appropriate accounting and control systems are in place and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for charities and in compliance with the contractual and legal obligations of the Association's funders, financial institutions, landlords, service partners, and with the Association's internal policies and guidelines.
- Plans, directs and co-ordinates the budget process, both annual and longer term, with program, administration, and senior managers. Develops the budget document for submission to and approval of the Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors.
- Prepares financial reports for the Association, reflecting variances and projected results.
- Conducts quarterly reviews with program, administrative and senior managers for analysis by the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Management Team and the Board of Directors.
- Co-ordinates the business of the Board Finance Committee and the Investment Sub- committee and prepares relevant financial information.
- Monitors the cash flow of the Association, purchasing and selling short-term investments to meet cash requirements.
- Monitors all spending to ensure that expenditures are properly documented and authorized.
- Monitors the capital and trust funds to ensure that they are being managed in accordance with donor and/or Board restrictions.
- Consults with the external auditors to ensure that all significant accounting issues are being handled in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Co-ordinates the annual financial audit and assists Program Managers and Directors in the co-ordination of program audits.
- Prepares and/or reviews the financial component in all submissions to funders. Advises the Chief Executive Officer on any financial issues relevant to the Association.
- Assists the Program Directors and Managers in ensuring compliance with the financial contractual requirements of all program operating agreements.
- Assists the Director of Philanthropy in ensuring compliance with Revenue Canada requirements in the area of charitable activities.
- Ensures that the appropriate insurance coverage is in place to protect the assets of the Association.
Program Planning, Delivery, and Evaluation
- Ensures that all departmental programs are evaluated on an annual basis and that all required reporting to government funders is completed on schedule
- Prepares reports for the Chief Executive Officer as required on the activities and outcomes of all departmental programs including bi-annual operational plan updates
Community Relations, Marketing, and Advocacy
- Collaborates in the development of strategic, comprehensive and cost-effective public relations, marketing, and fundraising plans to support the programs of the Association with the Director of Advocacy and Communications, the Director of Philanthropy, and relevant program managers
- Identifies opportunities for partnerships and collaboration with other organizations to ensure high quality, comprehensive and relevant programs
- Liaises with other Program Directors to ensure collaboration and integration across YWCA Toronto programs and services and create opportunities for capacity building amongst colleagues
Administrative and Human Resources Management
- Ensures adherence to the policies and procedures of the YWCA's Administrative Manual.
- Recruits, trains, and evaluates the Finance staff in accordance with the personnel policies of the Association.
- Develops and implements an annual Access and Equity plan for the department in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources and Administration.
- Oversees the implementation of health and safety programs and policies in the Finance Department to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for staff
Access & Equity Management
- Develops in collaboration with the Senior Manager of Equity and Transformative Engagement and the Chief Executive officer an annual Access & Equity plan for the Department
- Ensures the promotion and proactive implementation of the Access and Equity policies and procedures of the Association in consultation with the Senior Manager of Equity and Transformative Engagement and the Director of Human Resources for staff.
- Models commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment, responding with sensitive and personal awareness to the diverse needs of staff, including visible and non- visible dimensions of diversity
QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Accounting degree such as a CPA or exceptional knowledge of finances gained through equivalent experience. (Cases for Equivalency will be considered);
- Over ten years directly related experience including experience at a senior management level.
- Proven success in the non-profit charity sector with strong knowledge of the public and private sectors.
- Alignment with YWCA Toronto’s mission, vision and values including an understanding of and commitment to intersectional feminism
- Exceptional knowledge and competency in working with diverse groups from an anti- oppressive and trauma-informed framework
- Advanced experience in managerial, leadership and organizational skills. Advanced ability to research and analyze complex concepts and plan strategically. Demonstrated supervisory experience in a multicultural, unionized environment. Knowledge of another culture and /or a second language would be an asset.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Windows environment and computerized accounting systems is required.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication and presentation skills are essential. Previous experience in a feminist social service environment would be an asset.

Note: Vacation may not be taken during the Annual Audit.
