Overview

The Director of Design is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping the design strategy of enterprise technology systems, digital platforms, and user experiences. This position bridges design, technology, and business objectives—ensuring that IT products, services, and infrastructure are intuitive, scalable, and aligned with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and lead the design vision for IT systems, platforms, and digital products
  • Drive user-centered design practices across enterprise applications and internal tools
  • Establish and maintain design standards, frameworks, and system architectures
  • Oversee UX/UI design for internal and external-facing IT solutions (e.g., dashboards, portals, enterprise software)
  • Ensure seamless integration between front-end design and back-end architecture
  • Champion accessibility, usability, and performance optimization
  • Partner with IT leadership, engineering, cybersecurity, product management, and business stakeholders
  • Translate complex technical requirements into intuitive design solutions
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders
  • Lead, mentor, and scale multidisciplinary teams (UX designers, UI designers, design technologists)
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Implement design workflows, tools, and best practices
  • Align IT design initiatives with enterprise architecture and digital transformation strategies
  • Contribute to IT governance, compliance, and risk management initiatives
  • Ensure consistency across systems through design systems and reusable components
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies (AI/ML interfaces, automation, cloud platforms) into design strategy
  • Stay current on trends in enterprise UX, human-computer interaction, and digital transformation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, UX Design, Computer Science, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in UX/UI design, product design, or IT systems design
  • 5+ years in a leadership or management role within IT or digital product teams
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating enterprise-level or complex system design
  • Experience working with enterprise platforms (e.g., ERP, CRM, SaaS systems)
  • Proficiency in design tools (Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD)
  • Understanding of front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript frameworks)
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and APIs
  • Experience with design systems and component libraries
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud)

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in Agile, Scrum, or DevOps environments
  • Strong understanding of data visualization and dashboard design
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and compliance considerations in design
  • Experience with accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG)
  • Ability to manage large-scale digital transformation initiatives
