Job Purpose

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director, Data Intelligence is the strategic owner of the governance of World Vision Canada’s information assets and a key contributor to our Artificial Intelligence future. In this high-impact role, you will define how we extract value from data and contribute to where AI can accelerate our mission.

Crucially, you will play an integral role in shaping the organization’s technology ecosystem and bridge the gap between technical possibilities and strategic organizational value. As the incumbent in this function, you will define the data and compute requirements that drive infrastructure decisions, as a result, it will help in ensuring that our technical stack is ‘AI-Ready’ and sustainable.

Responsibilities

1. Data Intelligence & "Data as a Product"

  • Data Product Ownership: Shift the organization from a "service desk" mentality to a "Data as a Product" model. Oversee the creation of reusable, high-quality data assets (e.g., "The 360-Degree Donor View") that serve multiple business functions.
  • Democratization: Implementation of self-service Business Intelligence (BI) platforms (e.g., Sisense, PowerBI) that empower staff to answer their own questions without IT intervention.
  • Data Governance: Chair the World Vision Canada Data Governance Council. Enforce the standards for data quality, retention, and ownership, ensuring that the data feeding our AI models is accurate and trusted.

2. Artificial Intelligence Enablement

  • The AI Roadmap: Champion the execution of a pragmatic AI strategy (Generative and Predictive) that aligns with World Vision Canada’s strategic objectives.
  • Use Case Development: Partner with relevant stakeholders to identify high-value opportunities for automation and insight (e.g., donor propensity modeling, impact forecasting, content generation).
  • AI Framework: Chair the World Vision Canada AI Governance Committee and lead the AI Community of Practice. Drive the organization’s AI Ethics & Governance Policy. Ensure all AI execution protects beneficiary privacy, mitigates bias, and aligns with our core values.

3. Input to the Technology Ecosystem & Architecture

  • Ecosystem Influence: Act as a stakeholder in Enterprise Architecture decisions. You will define the data requirements (storage, compute, latency) that will inform how the infrastructure is architected and built.
  • Tool Selection & stack: Lead the evaluation and selection of the modern data stack (ETL/ELT, Data Warehousing, BI Tools, ML Ops). You ensure new tools integrate seamlessly into the broader technology ecosystem rather than creating silos.
  • Technical Debt Management: Advise ET&T leadership on "Data Debt", identifying legacy systems or structures that are hindering intelligence capabilities, and prioritize their modernization in the tech roadmap.

Qualifications

  • Strategic Leadership: 7+ years in Data Science, Analytics, or BI, with at least 3 years managing teams and setting strategy.
  • AI Expertise: Demonstrated experience deploying AI/ML solutions in a production environment (not just academic theory). Familiarity with LLM integration and predictive analytics.
  • Architectural Acumen: You don't need to be a cloud engineer, but you must speak the language of Enterprise Architecture. You understand how data flows through APIs, how cloud compute scales, and how schema design impacts performance.

Skills & Competencies

  • The "Translator": Ability to explain complex data concepts and architectural trade-offs to non-technical executive leadership.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work horizontally with Product, Finance, Marketing, Philanthropy, Enterprise Technology & Transformation peers and World Vision International (WVI), influencing decisions where you do not hold direct authority.
  • Change Management: Experience navigating the cultural friction of introducing data transparency into traditional organizations.

  • Health Spending Account
  • Up to 6% matched pension contributions
