About Neighbours United
Neighbours United is a community-driven charity that brings people together in rural, small, and suburban areas to support policies that protect the people and places we love. Through strategic campaigns using engagement organizing, deep canvassing, and communications, we are moving the needle in places often left out of progressive solutions. By centering personal stories we broaden public support beyond the usual environmental base.
We focus on areas and audiences that are frequently written off as unreachable. We invest in real conversations that matter to people.
We are known for our deep canvassing based approach: listening, leading with personal stories, and creating space for people to wrestle with real tensions. Rather than broadcasting messages, we create conversations that allow people to reflect, connect, and act.
Position Overview
The Director of Communications & Digital Organizing leads Neighbours United’s digital communication and supporter engagement strategy.
This role focuses on what happens after we meet someone on the ground. Our digital work is not just about mass reach, it is about building durable relationships that turn initial conversations into sustained involvement.
The Director will design and strengthen our digital engagement systems. Using tools such as email and social media, they will move supporters from initial interest to meaningful, sustained action at key strategic moments, including donating, writing emails, making calls, signing petitions, and other forms of engagement.
This is a leadership role focused on building long-term engagement infrastructure that supports the organizing goals across the organization. Success in this role is measured by deeper engagement across our database, stronger action rates, and increased recurring support.
You will:
- Continuously innovate Neighbours United’s digital organizing and activation strategy seeking to drive significant measurable growth
- Strengthen supporter journeys so that more people move from interest to action to long-term involvement
- Align all organizational digital communications so that engagement feels coherent and values-driven
- Use data and testing to improve performance and conversion rates
- Supervise and support three part-time staff members
- Collaborate closely with organizational and campaign leadership to ensure digital growth supports organizing goals
You Should Apply If You Are:
- Mission-aligned and motivated by helping everyday people have a stronger voice in decisions that affect the people and places they love
- Passionate about environmental justice
- Experienced in community organizing or grassroots, movement-based work
- Experienced in leading digital strategy or strengthening supporter engagement systems
- A strong systems thinker who is comfortable working with digital tools, including CRMs and social media platforms
- Confident interpreting performance data and make real time strategic adjustments
- Somewhat experienced in supervising staff or contractors
- A strong communicator and storyteller willing to share personal experiences to build authentic connection
- Enthusiastic about learning, taking risks, and iterating when things do not work as planned
- Resilient when campaigns fall short, and able to turn setbacks into focused improvement
If you do not meet every qualification but feel energized by this role, we encourage you to apply.
Compensation and Benefits:
Neighbours United is a Living Wage Employer. Alongside important and purpose-driven work in a supportive environment, we offer the following benefits:
- 10 paid sick days pro-rated
- Six weeks of paid time off, including four weeks vacation (prorated), and paid time off during August and January office closure.
- Technology hardware provided
