Position Description: As the Director of Communications and Donor Engagement (CDE), you will oversee communications, fundraising and community engagement for Indwell’s Family of Companies (Indwell, Flourish, Gather and Indwell Housing Services-IHS). Reporting to the CEO, you will direct the development and implementation of a marketing and communications road map across all platforms for Indwell, Gather, Flourish and Indwell Housing Services. You will lead the development and execution of a comprehensive fund development program for Indwell that includes the Annual Campaign, Capital Campaigns for new projects, Major Gift Solicitation, Foundation Relations and Planned Giving. You will foster a culture of philanthropy within Indwell and you will promote the identity of the Indwell family of companies as Christian organizations that embody the values of dignity, hope and love.

Indwell’s Family of Companies
Indwell is part of a family of non-profits that share a common vision of HOPE and HOMES for ALL, and values of Dignity, Love and Hope. Indwell is the original organization and it birthed Flourish (a social purpose, affordable housing, development consultant) in 2021. The Indwell Family has recently expanded to include Gather Housing Communities (creating affordable housing communities) and Indwell Housing Services (provides administrative and functional services and support to the Indwell Family of Companies). The Indwell Family of Companies is led by the CEO and governed by a board of directors that is mirrored for all four companies.
Hours of Work/Location: Full time 40 hours per week, Monday- Friday. Based at the Main Office: 1430 Main St. E, Hamilton Ontario- Indwell Resource Centre. Occasional travel to the other communities in which Indwell has programs (London, Sarnia, St. Thomas, Kitchener, Cambridge, Simcoe, Woodstock, Mississauga). Must have own vehicle and a valid “G” class driver’s license. Mileage paid when travelling outside of Hamilton.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communications:
- Lead the Community and Donor Engagement team and advise the executive team on communications and marketing strategy and message development
- Ensure brand consistency and fosters a value-aligned culture across all companies
- Develop a storytelling calendar and content strategy that supports the implementation of Indwell’s strategic plan
- Oversee development of Indwell’s digital communications strategy and expand Indwell’s digital presence including website, social media and e-communications to reach and engage diverse audiences
- Lead media relations
- Collaborate with the CEO and other key leaders on government relations
- Support a strategy of engagement with churches and other faith-based organizations
- Establish metrics and systems to measure marketing, communications and fundraising effectiveness and determine analytics to refine strategies and demonstrate impact
Fund Development (specifically for Indwell):
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fund development program that encompasses Indwell’s Annual Campaign, Capital Campaigns, Major Gift Solicitations, Foundation Relations, and Planned Giving
- Develop and implement donor engagement plans geared toward securing major gifts
- Identify, qualify and cultivate new and existing major donor prospects, and regularly review the existing pipeline for opportunities to upgrade donors
- Provide excellent gift stewardship
- Conduct capital campaigns for new Indwell projects, including feasibility assessments, campaign materials, gift solicitations, and community campaign and events
- Promote planning giving; coordinate with Christian Stewardship Services on administering gifts of securities and other planned giving options and Will and estate planning consultation
Community Engagement:
- Support the development of positive relationships with individuals, faith groups, community and service groups, foundations, political leaders, business and corporate leaders, and other service providers
- Host events that will increase Indwell’s profile and raise financial and other support commitments
- Recruit and support Indwell ambassadors, community connectors, and capital campaign cabinets
- Advise on community perceptions, concerns and opportunities
- Work with Indwell, Flourish and Gather teams to develop and implement community engagement strategies for new projects and regions
Administration:
- Oversee Indwell’s Constituency Relationship Management (CRM) system and its applications to accurately receipt and acknowledge donations and other contributions, record donor interactions and cultivation plans, and produce reports as required for donor communications and to monitor fundraising progress
- Ensure compliance with Indwell’s Donations and Fundraising Ethics Policy, including confidentiality of donor records
- Monitor fundraising progress and produce quality reports for internal and external parties as required
- In collaboration with Finance Department and the CDE team develop an annual CDE operating budget, monitor compliance with approved revenue and expenses
- Keep current on applicable legislation, regulations and guidelines including CRA guidelines for registered charities and non-profits
Qualifications Include:
- A commitment to upholding and modeling Indwell’s mission, values, Statement of Faith and other operating standards and policies, reflecting them in all interactions and decisions
- Minimum of five years experience in strategic communications in the Not-for Profit and Charitable sector
- Minimum of ten years in Fund Development in progressively responsible positions
- Major Gift and Capital Campaign experience
- Media Training
- Leadership and Supervisory experience
- Familiarity with a CRM (charity application)
- CMP certification or CFRE Designation or working toward
