Director, Board of Directors
Your Burnaby Arts Council is Seeking New Directors
For almost 60 years, the BAC has been amplifying diverse creative voices and enriching the lives of Burnaby citizens and visitors to the region. Now, we’re building a dream team of Arts Champions (like you) to help support and expand with us — an exciting phase of operational renewal and restructuring. Our working board will focus on strengthening governance, establishing a sustainable revenue stream, developing community-centred programs/services, and expanding our impact throughout Burnaby.
The arts are more important today than ever. Guided by curiosity, creativity and connection, we can craft a culturally rich future for Burnaby together. Bring your passion.
We're Looking For:
Applicants with professional experience or demonstrated knowledge in areas such as:
- Policy and governance

- Law or public policy
- Government or public administration
- Human Resources
- Communications and PR
- Non-profit leadership

Equivalent professional, academic, or lived experience will also be considered.
With appointments anticipated by November 2026, these two-year terms require active engagement and collaboration in organizational initiatives, willingness to lead projects within an assigned portfolio, and participation in monthly board meetings.
About the Role
BAC leadership operates as a Working Board, rather than a governance-only board. Directors actively contribute to organizational projects while also providing strategic leadership within their area of responsibility.
Each Director will oversee a portfolio, coordinate with staff, volunteers, and external contractors where appropriate, and help guide projects from planning through completion. While some work may be completed by contracted professionals, Directors are expected to provide leadership, oversight, and active participation throughout the process.
This role will require a commitment of 10-20 hours per month.

This role will work closely with external consultants and contractors, present policy recommendations to the Board, and help ensure the organization develops and maintains effective governance practices.

Lead BAC's fundraising strategy by developing private and commercial sponsorships, cultivating relationships with donors and community partners, identifying new funding opportunities, and supporting the organization's long-term financial sustainability.
We are as committed to diversity and inclusivity in our governance as we are in our exhibitions, programs and services. As such, we invite applications that reflect the richness of identities and ideas represented across Burnaby.
