
Director, Board of Directors (3 Volunteer Positions)

Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre (CONC) is seeking three volunteer board members to join our governance team: one Board Treasurer and two Board Members-at-Large.
About CONC
Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre (CONC) is a dynamic and rapidly growing non-profit organization that improves the quality of life for individuals and families facing poverty, homelessness, mental health challenges, and systemic barriers. We support vulnerable populations and marginalized community members, including , Indigenous peoples, racialized communities, 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, newcomers and refugees, through a wide range of services such as emergency shelters, transitional housing, supportive housing units, warming centres, settlement services, children and youth programs, employment readiness supports, harm reduction services, meal programs, community drop-ins, a community centre, and community development initiatives.
Our operations include more than 250 shelter beds across six locations in Toronto’s west end. With over 200 employees and an annual budget and asset base exceeding $17 million, CONC is a key part of the city’s social infrastructure.
At CONC we believe that effective board leadership and strong board governance includes both professional skills and a deep understanding of the real-world impacts of homelessness, poverty, and systemic barriers. We especially value a diversity of perspectives, including those with lived or frontline experience in the social services sector and those with leadership experience in fields like board governance, finance, or community work.

Board Roles Available
1) Treasurer
As Treasurer, you will play a vital leadership role in stewarding CONC’s financial health and sustainability. You will provide oversight on financial reporting, compliance, audit processes, and risk management. The Treasurer chairs the Finance Committee and leads the annual board budget meeting.
Preferred Qualifications:

CPA or equivalent designation

Experience in non-profit or public sector financial management

Familiarity with audits, funder compliance, and financial strategy

Strong communication and collaboration skills

Prior experience on a finance or audit committee (preferred)
Commitment:

3-year term (renewable)

Monthly board meetings and regular Finance Committee meetings

Estimated 8–10 hours/month
2). Two (2) Members-at-Large
As a general board member, you will help guide CONC’s strategic direction, governance, and community representation. All board members serve on at least one committee and support fundraising, advocacy, or outreach.
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of non-profit governance, social services, or community development

Strong communication and collaboration skills

Lived or professional experience in housing, health, social equity, or harm reduction (asset)

Skills in fundraising, legal, HR, IT, or real estate (asset)
Commitment:

Monthly board meetings plus committee participation

Estimated 6–8 hours/month
