What you will do
The Director of Animal Care is responsible for overseeing daily animal care operations, managing staff, and supporting the Animal Programs Manager in providing direct supervision, training, recruitment and retention. This role ensures the highest standards of animal welfare and safety while leading strategic improvements, visionary initiatives and community engagement .
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure consistent standards of animal care, safety, and welfare.
- Direct intake, daily care, and adoption processes to ensure smooth workflows.
- Oversee compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Manage pound services agreements and ensure service quality.
- Implement animal care policies and programs at the operational level.
- Focus on long-term strategy and execution of animal care initiatives.
- Direct the animal care and shelter staff.
- Oversee scheduling, training, recruitment, performance feedback, and retention strategies.
- Oversee animal care expenses, supplies, and resource allocation within budget constraints.
- Support fundraising events through operational planning and coordination.
- Assist in development strategy to enhance funding and support.
- Engage with the community to raise awareness of animal care trends.
- Strengthen community partnerships related to animal welfare and adoption.
- Report to the Executive Director with updates that inform leadership decisions.
- Make day-to-day and internal-facing decisions related to animal care.
- Advise on external-facing decisions impacting animal welfare.
