Kids Help Phone Foundation is seeking a Development Officer, Prospect Research & Management to help inspire generosity and raise funds across Canada to deliver on KHP’s promise to youth.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Advancement Strategy & Donor Experience, the successful candidate will support the KHP Foundation. The Development Officer, Prospect Research & Management (DO) is responsible for providing research, analysis, and portfolio management support to staff and senior volunteers engaging in fundraising activities. As a member of the Kids Help Phone Foundation, the officer provides insights and oversight in aligning research and prospect management strategies to KHP Foundation’s strategic goals and operating plan – delivering prioritized, high quality, accurate and timely prospect research to build KHP’S supporter base, increasing quantity of the prospect pipeline and quality of the organization’s prospects and data. The DO is responsible for the accurate information flow to and from fundraising staff and to ensure the integrity of prospect data and reports in Raiser’s Edge. Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce in-depth, well-written reports and profiles on prospects and donors by synthesizing and analyzing information obtained from internal and external sources.
  • Develop and implement proactive prospecting methodologies to identify and qualify potential supporters and senior volunteers, grow prospect pipeline and track status and insights internally.
  • Using a broad spectrum of prospect sources – including existing donors and volunteer-identified prospects – research, organize, and evaluate financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the organization’s priorities.
  • Provide insights, recommendations and identify areas of greatest opportunity to grow prospect and senior volunteer pipeline in support of annual and long-term strategic goals.
  • Work closely with Sr. Director, Strategy & Donor Experience to regularly review and analyse pipeline, ensuring it’s health, continued growth and accuracy
  • Collaborate with KHP Foundation Management and Team Members to develop fundraiser portfolios and conduct regular reviews to ensure portfolios meet team and individual goals.
  • Collaborate with KHP Foundation Team Members to manage, store, maintain and enhance prospect-related data, ensuring there is broad adoption of prospect management strategies, prospect clearance, and pipeline entry protocols.
  • Ensure a high level of data quality and data entry timeliness in Raiser’s Edge through accurate and detailed data entry and maintenance.
  • Conduct ongoing media scanning to monitor relevant news, people, events, issues, trends that impact fundraising strategies and provide suggested action items for follow-up and to move prospect relationships forward. 
  • Collaborate with Operations Team and internal stakeholders to provide a seamless and effective Raiser’s Edge experience, including process development, documenting, training, and internally championing the system’s use.  
  • Review, maintain and make recommendations on prospect research tools, subscriptions and services.
  • Maintain an awareness of best practices in prospect research, management and pipeline development through ongoing professional development and networking. 

Required skills & experience:

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience, ideally in a fundraising role, with a focus on prospect research and prospect management  
  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in Library and Information Science, or acceptable equivalent education or training  
  • Demonstrated strong project management and problem-solving abilities 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently, superior organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to work under deadline 
  • Interpersonal skills that support research outcomes being adopted and effective decision making by stakeholders 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion   
  • Proficiency with Raiser's Edge or other fundraising database, including database management, data mining and analysis and report generation 
  • Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and experience searching the Internet and online databases such as SEDAR and SEDI, CRA Charities, iWave, and CharityCAN  
  • Understanding of Canadian business landscape, financials and corporate annual reports.  

Preferred / Advantageous:

  • Fluency in French an asset 
  • APRA membership an asset
