Compensation: $67,254-$73,337

YOUR ROLE
JOB SUMMARY
Working closely with and reporting to the Manager, Development, the Development Officer, Major Gifts is responsible for managing a blended portfolio of current and prospective donors whose engagement with Canuck Place Children’s Hospice reflects existing and emerging major gift potential. Sitting within the Major Gifts team, this role plays a critical function by identifying, qualifying, advancing, and stewarding donors who may give personally, through community engagement, or via family or corporate foundations.
Through relationship-based fundraising, the Development Officer, Major Gifts cultivates, solicits and stewards donors across multiple giving pathways, applying moves management principles to support donor growth, multi-year commitments and long-term philanthropic investment. The portfolio may include donors who are introduced to Canuck Place through community or student/youth-led initiatives, workplace or corporate activations, or individual giving, with a clear focus on transitioning these relationships toward sustained major gift support over time.
This role is well suited to a fundraiser who thrives at the intersection of engagement and strategy, enjoys working with donors at all stages of their philanthropic journey, and is motivated by building strong foundations for future major and legacy giving relationships. The successful candidate will bring strong interpersonal skills, sound fundraising judgement, skill in identifying and converting new prospects, and a commitment to inclusive fundraising practices, while working collaboratively with colleagues across Major Gifts and other Development teams to ensure a coordinated donor experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages a portfolio of current and prospective donors, community partners and emerging philanthropists, working with the Manager, Development to set strategies and tactics to achieve an annual revenue target ranging from $450,000-$600,000.
- Develops and executes individualized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship plans for donors giving personally, through third-party initiatives, and via family or corporate foundations with gifts ranging on average at the $5,000 to $100,000 level.
- Applies a disciplined moves management approach to support donor growth, multi-year commitments and increased levels of giving over time.
- Builds and maintains relationships with community groups and associations, schools and student-led initiatives, supporting creative, mission-aligned fundraising and philanthropic engagement.
- Identifies opportunities to transition community, student and event-based supporters into ongoing individual, corporate or foundation relationships.
- Acts as a key point of contact for assigned community and emerging major gift donor audiences, providing guidance, resources and stewardship support.
- Works collaboratively with Major Gifts colleagues to support donors who engage through various giving pathways. Giving vehicles may include gifts of securities, Donor Advised Funds, and other forms of donations used by individuals, foundations, and corporations.
- Prepares tailored proposals, impact reports and stewardship communications aligned with donor interests and Canuck Place priorities.
- Works closely with colleagues across Development, Communications, Events and Donor Services to ensure a coordinated and positive donor experience.
- Supports the planning and delivery of engagement opportunities and events for community, student and individual donor audiences.
- Tracks activity, engagement and results using the donor CRM, budgetary tracking, and prospect management tools.
- Monitors progress against goals, identifies challenges and manages up as required.
- Ensures accurate documentation, reporting and adherence to fundraising best practices.
- Assumes other related responsibilities, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A related degree or diploma from a recognized educational institute or equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Ideally 3-5 years or more experience of progressive non-profit fundraising experience including experience working with an individual giving, major gifts or planned giving portfolio. This experience should include managing a major gifts portfolio, meeting revenue goals for the assigned portfolio, and securing higher levels of revenue and engagement from existing and new donors where possible.
- Experience working with volunteers, community groups, or student-led initiatives is an asset.
- Involvement with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or working toward CFRE designation is an asset.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Commitment to inclusive fundraising practices and student-led philanthropy.
- Discretion and professionalism when working with confidential information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with a donor CRM such as Virtuous or Raiser’s Edge; familiarity with collaboration tools such as Teams, Slack or Trello is an asset.
- Public speaking and presentation skills, both in person and virtually.

- Flexibility is necessary, as this position may require occasional weekend and evening work and travel within and outside Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
