Development Officer

About Tafelmusik

Tafelmusik is one of the world's great baroque orchestras — a Toronto-based ensemble that has performed in 350+ cities across 32 countries, earned ten JUNO Awards, and built a global reputation for performances that are as thrilling as they are authentic. With a landmark 50th anniversary arriving in 2028/29, we are entering an exciting period of growth: deepening community ties, diversifying our donor base, and expanding our artistic and educational reach.

The Opportunity

Philanthropy is at the heart of what makes Tafelmusik possible. As Development Officer, you'll be the engine behind our annual and monthly giving programs — acquiring and renewing donors, crafting compelling appeals, and delivering stewardship experiences that turn first-time givers into lifelong champions of the music.

Reporting to the Senior Development Officer, you'll collaborate across Development, Marketing, and Artistic teams — gaining rich exposure to every dimension of fundraising in a high-performing, collegial environment that genuinely values creativity and measurable results.

What You'll Do

Annual & Monthly Giving

  • Manage and grow the Friends-level donor portfolio, hitting revenue and retention targets
  • Design and execute multi-channel renewal and acquisition campaigns (email, direct mail, digital)
  • Expand the monthly giving program through smart segmentation, testing, and cultivation
  • Write fundraising content that moves people — appeals, e-newsletters, donor spotlights

Donor Stewardship & Events

  • Plan and execute donor events and recognition activities that feel personal and memorable
  • Build and maintain tailored stewardship journeys across all giving levels
  • Track and fulfill donor benefits, and coordinate volunteers, musicians, and vendors
  • Conduct post-event analysis and drive continuous improvement

Data, Reporting & Administration

  • Keep Tessitura records pristine: gift entry, receipting, acknowledgements, and data hygiene
  • Generate reports on appeal performance, donor trends, and event metrics — and act on them
  • Support list segmentation for appeals and stewardship; reconcile donations with Finance
  • Track budgets, process invoices, and manage vendor relationships for campaigns and events

What You Bring

  • 2–3 years of fundraising or development experience
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills — you know how to speak to different audiences
  • Strong organizational instincts and the ability to juggle multiple campaigns and deadlines
  • Experience with a CRM (Tessitura is a plus); proficiency in Microsoft Office; Wordfly and Canva are assets
  • An eye for detail and genuine comfort with both creative and administrative work
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial spirit and a positive, proactive attitude
  • A passion for music, the arts, and the mission of Tafelmusik
