This is a part-time 4-month contract position, with the opportunity to learn and grow. The successful candidate can expect a Living Wage based wage of $27.05 hourly.

Position Overview

The Development Assistant role provides essential administrative support to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank’s Development team during the busiest season of the year. This contract position is ideal for someone eager to gain firsthand experience in non-profit fundraising, donor relations, and stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a consistently high standard of donor service and care in responding to any GVFB donor requests or concerns via phone calls and emails;
  • Provide other admin support by responding to general inquiries, redirecting voice messages, calls, and emails to other departments;
  • Assist with fundraising activities and initiatives such as writing tribute and holiday cards, opening mail, scanning cheques, preparing new donor packages, mailing tax receipts, and updating donor details in the fundraising database;
  • Greet donors in-person and accept drop-in monetary donations as required;
  • Make reactivation calls to recover monthly and one-time donations as required;
  • Assist with holiday donation processing and donor data entry as required;
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Development Manager.

  • Proven ability to develop processes to streamline, automate, and build efficiencies within the department;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships, work in a team environment, and build trust;
  • Sense of humor, honesty, and compassion;
  • A flexible, collaborative, and proactive work ethic;
  • Self-starter, hands-on, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • 1+ years of direct or equivalent experience in office administration, event coordination, or customer service;
  • Experience volunteering or working in a nonprofit, social services, and related environment is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Canadian charity giving and tax receipting is an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook required.
