About us

University Health Network (UHN) is a major landmark in Canada´s healthcare system and a teaching hospital of the University of Toronto. UHN Foundation raises funds for research, education and the enhancement of patient care at Toronto General and Toronto Western hospitals, Toronto Rehab and The Michener Institute of Education at UHN. The Foundation is one of Toronto’s top fundraisers and we are looking to grow our Stewardship team as we continue the vital work of celebrating and recognizing our donors – ensuring they feel genuinely appreciated, meaningfully thanked and well informed about the incredible impact their generosity makes.

Position Summary

UHN Foundation is midst of a major data and reporting modernization initiative, having recently upgraded both their CRM and finance systems. As part of this initiative we are focused on creating a scalable, analytics environment using Power BI that will support data-informed decision-making across the Foundation including Major Gifts, Community Giving, Finance, Stewardship and Operations.

In addition to a primary focus on report and dashboard building, efforts relating to automation is also a central tenant to this role – be it through automating delivery of reports or leveraging other tools to develop applications that will help streamline workflows and support business process efficiency.

Responsibilities

Power BI Development – 60%

  • Optimize Power BI with a focus on usability, performance, flexibility, scalability and standardization of delivery of various reports and insights.
  • Build focused reports, paginated reports, and dashboard to support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, for example:

- Foundation key metrics (revenue, unique donors, year-over-year trends)

- Fundraising program performance (donors acquired, donor retention, cost to acquire, ROI, attribution, conversion rates, average gift)

- Campaign performance (commitments and revenue, progress to goal, cash flow, pledge collection and expected gifts to close)

- Prospect pipeline and moves management insights

  • Support the design of data architecture structures to support BI initiatives including the data warehouse and various source systems including our CRM, finance system and additional data sources as they are identified/available.
  • Direct experience with Blackbaud RE NXT backend and Infor SunSystems considered a plus.
  • Automate recurring reports to improve efficiency and ensure timely delivery of insights.
  • Keep up with the latest trends and best practices in data analysis, visualization, and tools.
  • Evaluate periodically the library of existing reports to ensure their usage and effectiveness continues to serve the needs of Foundation staff.

Stakeholder Collaboration and Requirements Gathering – 20%

  • Conduct stakeholder interviews to gather reporting requirements.
  • Design project charter and sign-off processes that will help ensure collaboration and accountability from various stakeholders across the organization.
  • Schedule check-in/progress meetings with stakeholders, managing to various milestone and through to project completion.
  • Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) sessions with stakeholders.
  • Refine dashboards based on UAT feedback to deliver on stakeholder requirements and outlined need.

Process automation – 10%

  • Drive process automation by modernizing workflows, bridging legacy systems with contemporary solutions to improve efficiency and scalability.

Documentation and Knowledge Transfer – 10%

  • Create report documentation that outlines clear report parameters and use cases
  • Help develop and maintain a global data dictionary to ensure standardization of terminology and analysis across the Foundation.

Requirements & Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience creating Power BI dashboards and reports that are based on articulated business needs with linked content, in-depth analytics, and nested parameters.
  • Microsoft Certified in Power BI an asset, or at a minimum be able to demonstrate advanced proficiency and best practices of Power BI.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders to define KPIs, focus reporting needs, and refine dashboard requirements.
  • Applied knowledge of data warehouse design with a focus on in-depth understanding of ETL (extract, transform, load) framework and experience with relational databases.
  • Power BI Service: workspace management, sharing, and security configuration as well as familiarity with data governance, compliance, and IT security practices.
  • SQL queries, Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Server Integrated Services (SSIS) required; technical skills in T-SQL, DAX, Power Query (M) also needed and experience with Visual Studio, and VB.Net a definite asset.
  • Demonstrated success developing and implementing User Acceptance Testing (UAT) processes and the ability to refine deliverables based on feedback.
  • Experience in high-growth, data-centric environments preferred, with having worked with complex non-profits a definite asset as it will support success in this role.
  • A commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced, service and results oriented environment.
  • The Foundation has a hybrid work model. Staff will be required to have a safe and secure home office set-up and will be required to be in office 1-2 days a week (specifics to be planned with your manager).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues in all positions throughout the Foundation.
