The Revenue & Marketing Unit is principally responsible for CARE Canada’s external marketing, communications, fundraising and philanthropic giving. The department is fundamental to achieving CARE Canada’s goal of inspiring Canadians to join us in our journey towards achieving our mission and realizing our vision through a brave and bold voice and through innovative and sustainable partnerships and revenue sources.

The Deputy Director, Communications & Public Engagement plays a critical role in supporting the R&M unit by leading the development, implementation and oversight of a new editorial and storytelling strategy. The role is also responsible for strengthening CARE Canada’s advocacy communications both publicly, ensuring we tell powerful, relevant stories that inspire public engagement and support key international development and humanitarian aid issues, as well as supporting and advising on private communications opportunities working to influence action and policy. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this role acts as a business partner to our Head of Policy and Advocacy, our Executive Leadership Team, Global Programs team and other strategic stakeholders across the organization and broader CARE confederation.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic communications and storytelling for impact, particularly within advocacy, nonprofit, or global development contexts.
  • Strong writing, editing, and content planning skills, with an ability to tailor narratives to different audiences and platforms.
  • Experience advising or developing public advocacy communications (e.g. op-eds, campaigns, government briefs).
  • Ability to distill complex issues into compelling public narratives and messages.
  • Collaborative, organized, and confident in building internal relationships across departments.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience in communications, journalism, public relations, international development, public policy, or a related field.

WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU EXTRAORDINARY

  • Familiarity with Canadian political context and international development sector.
  • Experience working in or with policy/advocacy or media relations teams.
  • Experience using digital analytics tools to guide content strategy.
  • Post-secondary education in a related discipline is considered an asset but not required.

REQUIREMENTS
