WellFort Community Health Services is a values-based, non-profit, multi-service organization committed to reducing barriers to care and improving the health of our communities. We provide services from an equity-focused, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach to individuals and families, many of whom have experienced systemic barriers and health inequities.

We prioritize populations who experience barriers to health and accessing services, including newcomers and refugees, people experiencing homelessness, racialized communities, those living with low income, and individuals living with complex mental health, substance use, or chronic conditions.

WellFort is seeking a Dentist to join our Health n’ Smiles team!  Health n’ Smiles provides services to under resourced families living in the Region of Peel. Our team includes Denturists, Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists.

The Dentist provides oral health care to their patients. This care includes providing preventative care and patient education on teeth, gum, and mouth care. The Dentist is responsible for examining the teeth, gums and mouth as well as a performing a variety of dental procedures including, but certainly not limited to, tooth extractions and fillings. The Dentist, who specializes in oral surgery or cosmetic dental care, can perform additional services for their patients, and along with that comes even more responsibility to ensure proper care for their patients. The Dentist is often also responsible for properly training and supervising staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs complete oral examinations, formulates comprehensive treatment plans, informs clients of and obtains consent for treatment plans including hygiene.
  • Performs recall exams and works in conjunction with hygiene team to ensure comprehensive oral health of clients on a regular basis.
  • Performs dental treatments such as diagnostic, restorations, crown and bridge, denture services, endodontic, periodontal, and preventative care.
  • Performs universal precaution procedures for infection control.
  • Prescribes antibiotics and administers local anesthetics.
  • Responsible for fabrication of dental prosthetic appliances either individually or in conjunction with the denturist.
  • Consultation with other health professionals as required in establishing a diagnosis and plan of care.
  • Participating in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, counseling, and health promotion services for individuals, families, and the community.
  • Providing services to clients at outreach locations. Maintains contact as required by Clinical Protocols with the physician or other staff through telephone consultation.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery, licensed and in good standing with RCDSO
  • Extensive experience in a large dental practice.
  • Experience working in a community dental clinic or in a public health environment is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with clients and staff in a community clinic.
  • Demonstrated technical, administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiar and comfortable with working in a values based organization.
  • Supervisory or leadership experiences are an asset.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills with both individuals and interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience working with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications and Abeldent software an asset
  • Interest in community health or social services an asset.
  • Experience working in a value based non-profit or social services organization.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in use of computers and various computer software applications
  • Ability to speak languages relevant to the residents of the Peel region an asset.
  • Consistent access to a vehicle for responsive care delivery at any care delivery location.
