General Responsibilities: We are seeking a Dental Hygienist as part of the Parkdale Queen West Dental Services group. The Dental Hygienist provides treatment for community clients served by Parkdale Queen West. In addition to the regular duties performed by the Dental Hygienists, they may be required to assist the Dentists as scheduled and/or required. This position will require working from multiple locations based on the organization’s operational needs.

Reporting Manager: Manager, Dental Services

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Obtains and evaluates the client’s personal medical and oral health history.
  • Performs dental hygiene examinations, oral hygiene procedures and treatment of periodontal conditions.
  • Counsels’ clients regarding preventive and proper oral hygiene techniques and procedures.
  • Refers and prepares referrals of clients to dentists or specialty services as appropriate after consultation with the Dentist and/or delegate.
  • Performs oral health procedures which are within scope of practice or for which hygienists are licensed to perform.
  • Expose, process and mount digital radiographs.
  • Assists the Dentist as scheduled and/or required including periodontal charting.
  • Develop and present educational content on essential oral hygiene practices through various online and offline venues.
    Ensure that relevant policies and procedures are current and implemented in the operation of the Dental Clinic.
  • Supervises dental hygienist students on their placements.
  • Note: Your availability on evenings will be until 7:00 pm on some days

Qualifications:

  • Holds a current licence from and is in good standing of the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO).
  • Possesses experience and demonstrates ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health service environment.
  • Self-initiation designation preferred.
  • Demonstrates component dental hygiene techniques, including assessment and intervention procedures.
  • Prior experience assisting Dentists is an asset.
  • Comfortable working with a diversity client population including youth and adults.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation: $38.24/hour to $44.69/hour, plus HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) option
