Purpose:
The Alzheimer Society of Durham Region (ASDR) proudly participates in the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association’s Charitable Gaming Program. Through this initiative, a portion of proceeds from Delta Bingo in Pickering supports local charities. To be eligible for funding, ASDR must provide two volunteers who must commit to working a two-hour shift each month. Each two-hour shift the volunteers work will generate $1,000 in revenue to support ASDR’s programs and services.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
• Arrive 5 minutes early and sign-in using the sign-in book
• Ensure you are following the dress code:
Collared white shirt
Dark dress pants, mid-calf capris or skirt (can be black, dark brown, dark grey or navy).
Please note jeans, leggings and track pants are not permitted
Comfortable dark shoes or dress sandals
Name tag provided by ASDR
• Get the ASDR banner from the charity cupboard and set-up near the bingo room bathrooms.
• If your shift starts before a session, use that time to clean Bingo Gecko screens and wipe tables. There are cloths, paper towels, gloves, and cleaning sprays in the cupboard where the sign in book is kept. The Gecko screens should be wiped with a barely damp cloth and then with a dry cloth. Screens should not be cleaned during a session unless a patron requests it. Ask at the snack bar if you need a wet cloth. Never spray a screen directly. Spray on a dry cloth, then wipe down the screen.
• Circulate both rooms (bingo and slot machines)
• The Delta Bingo staff may ask you to do a head count and will provide a clicker or do it manually.
• The new Tap Tix machines have bins which catch the tickets. These need to be emptied regularly. Ask at the lottery desk near the Tap Tix for the container to empty the bins into.
• Respond to questions and requests. Ask staff for help if needed.
• If a customer looks like they are having a problem, ask if you can be of assistance (i.e., carrying food).
• Check the brochure stand at the front door and restock ASDR brochures, as necessary.
• Greet and welcome customers. Assist with seating and opening doors.
• Promote ASDR when the opportunity arises. Give examples of how Delta Bingo funds support ASDR’s programs and services.
• Keep the environment clean. Ensure tables and floors remain tidy. Clear USED bingo cards, empty cups, paper plates, etc. Note: Always ask the customer first
• Assist with promotions (handing out ballots, etc.)
• Return chairs to proper positions.
• Thank guests as they leave on behalf of ASDR
• Greet charity volunteers arriving on the next shift and advise them of any new customers, problems, etc.
• Take down the ASDR banner and return to charities cupboard for storage
• Sign-out at the end of your shift.
• No purchasing of gaming products during assignments. If you wish to buy gaming products, food and concession items do so before or after your assignment.
• Sitting should be limited to no more than a total of 10 minutes per assignment in the chair beside the sign-in book.
• No meals, or phone use during an assignment, however, a water bottle may be kept near the sign-in book and there is water available from the snack-bar.
