The Community Services (CS) department at Fred Victor is a multi-service, multi-site structure that encompasses the 40

Oak Community HUB and community programs, Consumption and Treatment Services, Employment and Training Services, Drop-Ins, Warming and Keep Cool Programs, and Food Services. Additionally, it operates a social purpose enterprise with catering services and spearheads a significant peer training initiative that prioritizes the involvement of individuals with lived experience.

The Customer Service Representative (Delivery Driver) works as an integral part of the Food Services team at 145 Queen Street East and 40 Oak, as needed. This position is responsible for delivering food items and providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external clients of Fred’s Kitchen, the social purpose enterprise within the Food Services program. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in safe, efficient driving and delivery, and a strong commitment to delivering professional, courteous customer service.

What You Will Do:

  • Train with the Food Service Management Staff in all aspects of the catering business, with a focus on safe handling and delivery of catering orders.
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of catering orders, delivering exceptional service and a positive experience for each customer.
  • Learn proper techniques for loading and unloading goods, using correct lifting and handling practices.
  • Promote and market the business of the social enterprise with customers and community members.
  • Receive training in the safe and sanitary storage and transportation of food and other products.
  • Become familiar with the menu, including food preparation, ingredients, and garniture.
  • Greet customers promptly and provide friendly, courteous service, offering assistance as needed.
  • Relay food-related information to customers and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Build strong customer relationships through clear and consistent communication, adding value to each delivery.
  • Actively seek customer feedback to improve service, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with management to share customer feedback, identifying opportunities for the growth and promotion of the social purpose enterprise.
  • Maintain a clean, organized vehicle, ensuring it is free from trash, food debris, spills, insects, or contaminants that may affect food or equipment.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, using checklists and personal observation to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Adhere to all local, provincial, and federal food safety and traffic regulations.
  • Under management supervision, plan and optimize delivery schedules and routes using GPS, maps, and other resources.
  • Track trip details such as mileage, fuel costs, and any issues encountered during delivery.
  • Verify food orders for quality and accuracy using the provided checklist.
  • Assist with kitchen cleaning duties and food preparation when not making deliveries.
  • Follow the scheduled cleaning and sanitation plan for the delivery vehicle on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • A valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License with a clean driving record (Driver’s Abstract required).
  • At least 1 year of experience in driving, delivery, or event setup.
  • A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Consistently maintains a polite, respectful, and professional demeanor in all interactions, ensuring positive and constructive communication with customers and colleagues.
  • Lived experience in accessing community services and meal programs is considered a valuable asset.
  • Experience working within diverse, low-income community settings is an asset

  • Ability to work in multiple environments, including kitchen environment, outside and off site.
  • Good knowledge of the Greater Toronto Area and downtown driving routes.
  • A willingness and ability to work in a professional and appropriate manner with the public and/or catering customers.
  • Demonstrated self-starter who can follow direction as well as work independently when required.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts on short notice.
  • Strong organizational skills; punctual and dependable.
  • Friendly and approachable with the ability to represent the Social Purpose Enterprise with customers.
  • Ability to work within a diverse team and in a training kitchen environment.
  • Familiarity with issues impacting the lives of individuals who are homeless and living in poverty.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical demands – Standing, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, ability to carry/lift 40 pounds/18 kilograms, and push/pull 200 pounds/90 kilograms.
  • Repetitive Action – Driving to and from customer event locations and kitchen in a timely manner; assist with venue set-up; keeping delivery vehicle neat and clean; keeping records.
  • Working Conditions – Inside, outside, hot, and cold environments.
  • Occasionally works in a busy, often hot, and noisy kitchen environment.
  • Work required off site.
  • Works flexible hours.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • For the Customer Service Representative (Delivery Driver), Fred Victor offers an hourly rate of $22.65 • 4 weeks of vacation to start + 1 float day
