Ladies in the Family Foundation (LIFF), Alberta Black Therapists Network (ABTN), and Hope Alive Ministry are working in collaboration to execute the HERConnect project. LIFF is designated to coordinate the recruitment of contractors to work on the project.

HERConnect project is a groundbreaking initiative that is part of Calgary’s Community Safety Investment Framework. The project is a partnership between The City of Calgary, the Calgary Police Services, and various community partners seeking to alleviate gaps in crisis and outreach service provision for mental health and addictions in Calgary.

Through a collaboration between Ladies in the Family Foundation (LIFF), Alberta Black Therapists Network (ABTN), and Hope Alive Ministry, HERConnect aims to streamline crisis response and follow-up for Black women and girls i n Calgary

Crisis & Case Management Social Worker

Location: Calgary, Alberta (Hybrid Model)

Position Overview

Ladies in the Family Foundation and their partners (Alberta Black Therapist Network (ABTN) and Hope Alive

Ministry (Herconnect )is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Crisis & Case Management Social Worker (Independent Contractor) to provide comprehensive social work services combined with emergency and crisis response support. The role reports to the Therapist lead at ABTN

This hybrid role requires in-person service delivery in Calgary two days per week (Between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM), with weekday services delivered remotely. The Contractor will also provide after-hours crisis response as required.

This is an independent contractor engagement. The successful candidate will invoice for services rendered and is responsible for their own statutory remittances and professional coverage.

Work Structure

Hybrid work structure

In-Person (Calgary):2 days per week, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Remote Services: Three days a week during standard business hours

After-Hours On-Call: Evenings (after 5:00 PM) and weekends as required

The Contractor exercises independent professional judgment while meeting agreed service delivery expectations and response standards.

Scope of Services Routine Social Work & Case Management Services

Rate: $45.00 per hour

These services reflect structured, non-emergency professional support.

Client Support & Case Management

  • Conduct intake assessments and psychosocial evaluations
  • Develop individualized service and care plans
  • Facilitate scheduled family support meetings
  • Coordinate referrals to housing, healthcare, income support, and community resources
  • Advocate for clients with service providers
  • Conduct routine follow-ups and progress monitoring
  • Case conference with external agencies
  • Prepare court or agency reports (non-urgent matters)

Preventative & Educational Services

  • Provide coping strategy education
  • Deliver workshops or structured support sessions
  • Conduct non-urgent risk assessments
  • Develop safety plans where no immediate risk exists
  • Community outreach and resource networking

Administrative & Documentation Duties

  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes
  • Update client records and service logs
  • Prepare monthly summaries or progress reports
  • Routine email and phone communications (non-crisis)
  • Schedule coordination and service tracking
  • Participate in supervision or case review meetings and staff meetings

Crisis Intervention Services (During Regular Hours)

Rate: $55.00 per hour

Applies when there is active or imminent risk requiring urgent stabilization.

Examples include:

  • Suicide risk assessment and intervention
  • Domestic violence emergency response
  • Child protection concerns requiring immediate action
  • High-risk conflict de-escalation
  • Urgent safety planning
  • Emergency relocation coordination
  • Crisis stabilization sessions
  • Immediate coordination with police, hospitals, or protective services

Services must clearly meet crisis-level criteria to qualify for this rate.

After-Hours Crisis Response Services

Rate: $60.00 per hour

Minimum billing increment: 1 hour

Applies to:

  • Crisis calls received after 5:00 PM (weekdays)
  • Weekend crisis calls
  • Emergency interventions outside scheduled hours

Documentation & Billing Requirements

The Contractor must clearly distinguish and document all services under the following classifications:

Routine Case Management – $45/hr

Crisis Intervention (Regular Hours) – $55/hr

After-Hours Crisis Response – $60/hr

Required Crisis Documentation:

Each crisis or after-hours file must include:

  • Date and exact start/end time
  • Duration of service
  • Risk level assessment
  • Nature of crisis
  • Interventions provided
  • Outcome and follow-up plan

All after-hours calls must be verified through phone provider records associated with Ladies in the Family Foundation.

Invoices must itemize services by category and align with documentation submitted. Incomplete documentation may delay payment.

Professional & Regulatory Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social work (BSW or MSW)
  • Registered and in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW)
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in complex case management and crisis intervention
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment and safety planning
  • Knowledge of Calgary community resources
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for in-person days - Active professional liability insurance

Independent Contractor Terms

The Contractor acknowledges and agrees that:

  • This engagement does not create an employment relationship.
  • The Contractor is responsible for all income tax, CPP, EI, and statutory remittances.
  • The Contractor maintains independent professional judgment.
  • The Contractor supplies their own professional insurance coverage.
  • Payment is based solely on services invoiced and properly documented.
