Crisis and support line volunteer
We are currently recruiting volunteers to be trained as crisis & support workers.
Our crisis workers answer calls on our 24-hour crisis line and provide immediate emotional support, safety planning, self-care, and referrals. Volunteers are also trained to accompany survivors of sexual violence to the hospital, police, and courts.
We offer comprehensive training for our volunteers which covers topics including but not limited to feminism and anti-sexism, anti-oppression/anti-discrimination, adult sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and incest, self-harm, supportive listening, suicide, myths, crisis intervention, medical and legal information.
Training for this important and valuable work is free. Before beginning volunteer training, we ask that you be 18 years of age or older, that you submit a volunteer application, and that you complete a 1-hour interview. Upon successful completion of training, we ask that folks commit to being a part of the SAC Brant team for a 1-year period.
If you are interested in taking part in our next crisis line volunteer training, please fill out the volunteer application and include it in an email to our Crisis Line Coordinator, Kal Ing at kal@sacbrant.ca
