Volunteer Position Description
Position Overview
The Board Director – CPA Accountant provides strategic financial leadership and oversight for the Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch Program Society (ENW). This volunteer role ensures accurate financial management, compliance, budgeting, and reporting in support of ENW’s mission and governance responsibilities.
Position Type
- Volunteer role within a not-for-profit organization
- Two-year term (renewable in accordance with Board Bylaws and performance)
Reporting Structure
The CPA Accountant reports directly to the ENW Board of Directors and acts under its direction, motions, and policy guidelines.
Authority and Governance Role
Board Directors work individually and collectively to guide ENW’s strategic direction, business planning, and financial stewardship. The CPA Accountant acts only within Board-approved motions and resolutions and represents the organization as authorized.

Qualifications & Requirements
- CPA designation or BA in Accounting/Finance
- Minimum 2 years of finance or accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow)
- Understanding of payroll functions, ROE submissions, and T4/T5 processing
- Experience presenting budgets and financial reports to a Board
- Familiarity with board or committee meeting processes
- Understanding of charitable/not-for-profit operations
- Proficiency with Simple Accounting and Excel (including formulas)
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills
- Analytical, detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet strict monthly deadlines
- Integrity, discretion, and sound judgment
- Decisive, innovative, flexible, and service-oriented
- Member in good standing
- Must pass a Special Enhanced Police Information Check (EPS)
- Must be a resident of the City of Edmonton
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage ENW’s finances, budgets, and expenditures
- Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Board
- Maintain accurate records of receipts, disbursements, and expenditures
- Prepare journal entries, account analyses, and month-end reporting
- Prepare quarterly and annual forecasts
- Prepare termination notices in collaboration with supervisors/managers
- Disburse funds as authorized by the Board
- Support fundraising activities
- Prepare and monitor organizational budgets
- Report regularly on financial trends, risks, and fiscal health
- File required financial, tax, and audit documentation
- Present annual budgets for Board approval
- Ensure development and review of financial policies and procedures
- Deliver timely financial documents for Board meetings and the AGM
- Notify the Board of matters requiring approval
- Assist in auditor selection and annual audit review
- Ensure compliance with legislation, bylaws, and regulatory requirements
- Attend and participate in Board meetings
- Provide guidance on governance processes, accountability, and decision-making
- Demonstrate leadership and active participation in Board decisions
Community Relations Responsibilities
- Represent ENW at community events
- Strengthen ENW’s visibility and reputation
- Undertake community activities that enhance organizational awareness
Performance Criteria

Terms
Directors are elected for a two-year term at the Annual General Meeting, with the option to extend based on Board Bylaws and performance.
