Established in 1972, TESL Ontario is an independent not for profit association serving the professional development needs of English language educators in Ontario. The Association consists of a provincial office and 12 chapters and is governed by a nine-person board of directors.

Position Summary

The Coordinator, Professional Development & Digital Engagement is responsible for organizing and delivering professional development initiatives while building and supporting vibrant online communities for TESL Ontario’s 4,500 members. This fully remote role requires an individual with exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work independently, balancing multiple projects, deadlines, and volunteer teams. The Coordinator will oversee the TESL Ontario webinar program, manage the organization’s social media presence, and foster meaningful online engagement. The successful candidate will be proactive, resourceful, and committed to strengthening TESL Ontario’s professional development programming and digital reach.

Type: Full-time, One-year Contract with an opportunity to become a full-time, permanent employment with benefits after one year

Salary: $50,000 - $52,000

Professional Development

  • Independently organizes and manages professional development initiatives, with a primary focus on webinars, ensuring webinar program is well-coordinated and meets member needs.
  • Plans and designs promotion and member engagement for TESL Ontario professional development activities including annual virtual conference.
  • Leads webinar program operations, including scheduling and development of bi-monthly webinars, recruitment and training of presenters, moderators, and volunteers.
  • Produces and edits branded digital content (Canva), including videos for webinars, YouTube, and social media.
  • Attends TESL Ontario professional development events as required, including occasional evening or weekend commitments.

Social Media and Member Engagement

  • Leads TESL Ontario’s digital engagement strategy, including the management of all social media platforms and the support of inclusive online communities.
  • Fully responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring TESL Ontario’s social media strategy to ensure consistent branding, raise the profile of the TESL profession, and promote the TESL Ontario brand.
  • Develops and maintains a monthly social media content calendar to ensure consistency, organization, and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Proactively monitors all TESL Ontario social media platforms and represents TESL Ontario in digital conversations.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports on social media metrics to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Creates and/or coordinates the creation of TESL Ontario branded images and digital content.

Volunteer Management

  • Provides structured coordination and clear guidance to assigned volunteer teams, ensuring roles and responsibilities are well defined, volunteers are supported, and team mandates are successfully carried out.
  • Actively participates in committees and volunteer team meetings, including the Conference Planning Committee and other working groups as needed, with occasional commitments outside of regular working hours.
  • Assists in planning and executing volunteer recognition initiatives.
  • Ensures volunteers follow TESL Ontario’s code of conduct, including confidentiality and professional standards.

Required Qualifications

  • College Diploma/University Degree in a relevant field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in social media management, including content planning, scheduling, and analytics, with a demonstrated eagerness to learn and develop additional skills as needed.
  • Excellent knowledge of social media best practices for Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube.
  • Strong knowledge of Zoom (meetings and webinars), with experience in hosting or managing online events.
  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects, deadlines, and volunteer teams simultaneously.
  • Proven ability to work independently and take initiative, while also contributing effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to support, guide, and motivate volunteers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Assets

  • Experience in webinar development and professional development planning.
  • Knowledge of basic website editing.
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Experience with video editing and producing branded digital content.
  • Experience delivering quality sponsor recognition through graphics or video content.
