To help fulfill its mission, LOFT is hiring a Full-time Contract Coordinator, Life Enrichment Services.
Job Summary
The Coordinator of Life Enrichment Services is responsible for coordinating and overseeing a life enrichment program and developing and promoting best practice standards around therapeutic recreation services within a LOFT Supportive Housing Program as part of a Community Investment Fund project. A key component of the position will be building a network of internal/external resources which will empower persons served, promote their wellness and recovery, and increase their independence, dignity, and self-respect. This position will play a key role in the development of adaptive recreational and social activities to engage tenants, reduce isolation, and improve quality of life. Based from a LOFT’s Supportive Housing Program and supporting scattered units throughout the community, the Coordinator, Life Enrichment Services will participate in the Community of Practice comprised of Life Enrichment Workers from across LOFT, with a goal of improving therapeutic recreation practices via shared knowledge and continuing education. This role will also facilitate the implementation of emerging and evidence-based best practices via ongoing review of literature and connecting with the wider therapeutic recreation community. This position collaborates with Program Managers across multiple services within LOFT, and is involved in the development and monitoring of quality initiatives for this special project.
LOFT’s Supportive Housing Services in York Region/South Simcoe provide a variety of supports to adults (18 years+), either within LOFT owned houses/buildings or through head lease arrangements with private landlords. Through a multidisciplinary team of case managers, residential support workers, and life enrichment workers, we offer a range of programming that meets the level of support needs or unique challenges of specific populations, including people living with complex mental health and/or addictions challenges, concurrent disorders, physical health comorbidities, chronic homelessness, and/or involvement in the criminal justice system. Our sites include independent cooperative living arrangements for those requiring drop-in case management support, individual and shared accommodations, and staffed congregate settings for individuals needing daily support.
What You Will Do
Leadership and Oversight
Recommend and liaise with Program Managers in the selection of all Life Enrichment Workers (LEWs) on the basis of job description and salary scales by LOFT Community Services guidelines
Develop cooperative action, build relationships with LEWs and act as a liaison between staff and internal/external resources
Develop and coordinate standards for the Supportive Housing Life Enrichment Program based on current best practices, including standard LOFT Community Services Job Description education and training, programming and access to resources
Develop and coordinate training and professional development programs/activities for LEWs involved in this project
Collaboratively with Program Managers and Coordinators, support the overall supervision of LEW staff, including job performance appraisals as specified by LOFT Community Services policy
Coordinate and attend regular staff meetings and supervisory meetings as required
Planning and Monitoring
Participate in the project implementation planning process which includes: preparing the service plan, operating plan, client satisfaction feedback process, and other research activities;
Identify gaps in service and recommend solutions;
Utilize quality improvement tools to evaluate and promote positive change within LOFT’s Life Enrichment Services
Participate in meetings, planning and evaluation initiatives, committees, events and activities;
Compile program evaluation reports and statistical information, inputting as required;
Participate in research activities related to Life Enrichment Services at LOFT
Other duties, as assigned by the Program Manager
What You Bring
Must-Have
Degree and/or diploma in Therapeutic Recreation or recreation with a therapeutic concentration.
Minimum 2 years’ experience with vulnerable adults who may be living with mental illness, addiction challenges and/or on going physical health issues
Previous experience in a leadership role an asset
Knowledge and training in GPA, PIECES and Restorative Care.
Knowledge and proven experience working with clients in a PSR (Psychosocial Rehabilitation) approach.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Valid drivers’ license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Understanding of cultural competency and anti-oppression framework.
Ability to organize and work with individuals and groups in the areas of assessment, program planning and problem solving.
Ability to interact with clients in a positive and supportive manner.
Physically able to perform required duties.
Good oral and written skills.
Excellent computer skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrated effectiveness working with minimal supervision with proven reliability and trustworthiness.
Ability to communicate in a different language, an asset
Work Environment
Since the workplace involves working in residents own homes, staff may be subjected to second hand smoke while performing their job duties.
May be required to be on after-hours on call, on a rotating schedule.
