Position:

Contract PAR Group Facilitator

Program:

Partner Assault Response (PAR) Program

Function:

The purpose of this position is to co-facilitate weekly PAR group sessions. These group sessions are male-female co-facilitated.

Overview:

The PAR Program is a MAG-funded 12-week psycho-educational model of intervention designed to address abusive behavior in intimate partner relationships. The program aims to teach participants how to demonstrate healthy, respectful and non-abusive behaviors in their intimate relationships.

Responsible to:

PAR Team Leader and Director of Justice and Court Programs

Schedule:

2 groups per week – 8 hours per week.

Location:

360 Deerhide Cres., Toronto

Responsibilities and Authority:

  • To provide intimate partner/domestic violence counseling to clients in our PAR Program using a male-female co-facilitation model.
  • To identify and assess the risks/needs/barriers of clients in order to develop an appropriate plan of care.
  • To provide ongoing assistance and counseling to address the client’s needs.
  • To complete needs assessments, case-notes, exit interviews, interim reports and completion reports.
  • To prepare, review and deliver psycho-educational materials and counseling services as required.
  • To conduct outreach to other community agencies to enhance service delivery and for purposes of establishing partnerships in areas specific to client needs.
  • To refer clients to other community agencies, institutions, services, legal aid etc. as appropriate.
  • To maintain follow-up with clients wherever practicable.
  • To assist agency in program development through identification of service gaps.
  • To ensure that services delivered are efficient and effective through evaluation techniques.  To participate in agency/staff committee meetings to enhance agency’s ability to deliver services.  Participate in community-based networks, education and advocacy initiatives related to issues on IPV/GBV/DV.
  • To assist in maintaining accessible, relevant, responsive and quality services.
  • To assist in other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • BA or BSW degree in related discipline plus related experience or a combination of experience and or training in gender studies, femicide, intimate partner violence and or family violence.
  • Current membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Knowledge of Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs and combined experience in challenging beliefs regarding woman abuse.
  • Training in and experience using relevant evidence-based counseling treatment modalities is required.
  • Understanding of the impact of particular factors on individual’s well-being, inclusive of social determinants of health such as poverty, trauma, homelessness, mental health.
  • Minimum of two (2) years employment history in the criminal justice field specific to Gender-Based Violence, Intimate Partner /Domestic Violence, crisis intervention and mental health.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of group facilitation experience.
  • Knowledge of suicide risk assessments, safety planning, crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic modalities and experience in providing short-term clinical support.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working through an anti-racist, anti-oppression, trauma-informed lens.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to provide and adapt interventions to a diverse client group including people with disabilities, Black, Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQI2S+, neurodiverse, and/or substance-using communities.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources is an asset.
  • Experience in community outreach.
  • Ability to work in a team setting.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate Microsoft applications.
  • Physical ability to set up and organize meeting room for in-person, hybrid or virtual program delivery.
  • Vulnerable sector check.
