Content Writer/Translator Volunteer

Position Title: Content Writer/Translator

Volunteer Type: Virtual

Location: Remote

Volunteer Hours: 1-3 hrs./wk., flexible workdays

Volunteers Needed: 3

Reports to: Volunteer Services Coordinator & Content Writing Team Lead

Position Summary

The Content Writer / Translator Volunteer will support the Volunteer Services Department in collaboration with the Graphic Design Team to create the bi-monthly volunteer newsletter. Volunteers will contribute written content, assist with editing, and provide language translations for communication, promotional materials, and online programs.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit articles and content for the volunteer newsletter.
  • Develop creative and engaging written pieces that are concise and clear.
  • Discuss and confirm task requirements with the supervisor.
  • Provide accurate translations of text from English into other language(s).
  • Complete assigned tasks by agreed-upon deadlines.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in content writing or copyediting is an asset.
  • Proficient with Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Canva.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management.
  • Ability to take notes and follow directions accurately.
  • Fun, creative, and positive attitude.
  • Respectful, patient, and understanding toward seniors.
  • Able to read and comprehend English documents.
  • Ability to write in another language such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Tamil, Greek, or French is an asset.
  • Reliable and adaptable with good organizational skills.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure client safety by following all responsibilities and procedures outlined in the Volunteer Handbook and/or by the supervisor.
  • Will not lift clients.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) if required.

Working Environment

  • Remote, work-from-home setting.
  • Extended periods of computer work may be required.
  • May experience occasional work interruptions.

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation on SPLC policies and procedures, including COVID-19 measures, conducted by Volunteer Services.
  • IPAC Mandatory Training (for onsite positions).
  • Organizational Training for all new volunteers.
  • Role-specific orientation and training provided by the direct supervisor.

Supervision & Evaluation

  • Supervision and ongoing support provided by the Volunteer Services Coordinator and the Content Writing Team Lead.

Other Requirements

  • Vulnerable Sector Check screening (mandatory).
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a Medical Exemption Certificate (mandatory).
  • Must be 16 years or older.
  • Commitment of 1–3 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months.
