Position Title: Content Writer/Translator Team Lead

Volunteer Type: Virtual

Location: Remote

Volunteer Hours: 1-3 hrs./wk., flexible workdays

Volunteers Needed: 3

Reports to: Volunteer Services Coordinator & Content Writing Team Lead

Position Summary

The Content Writer / Translator Team Lead Volunteer will support the Content Writing and Translation Team within the Volunteer Services Department. The Team Lead is responsible for overseeing team operations, ensuring all assigned tasks are completed on time, and providing guidance and support to team members. This role will also involve contributing written and translated content for the Volunteer Services quarterly newsletter and other communication materials. Will need to collaborate with the Graphic Design/Video Editing Team Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned tasks by agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Coordinate and ensure the timely completion of the Volunteer Services quarterly newsletter.
  • Manage team members and delegate writing or translation tasks as appropriate.
  • Provide regular updates to the Volunteer Services Coordinator regarding project progress.
  • Conduct meetings with the writing team to discuss progress, address challenges, and relay updates from Volunteer Services.
  • Take detailed meeting notes and provide assistance to team members as needed.
  • Maintain document control within the team’s Microsoft Teams Channel.
  • Write, edit, and proofread articles and content for the volunteer newsletter.
  • Create engaging and concise written pieces aligned with SPLC’s mission and tone.
  • Discuss and confirm content requirements with the supervisor.
  • Provide accurate translations of written materials from English into other languages.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in content writing, copyediting, or communications is an asset.
  • Experience with project coordination or team leadership is an asset.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Canva.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Fun, creative, and positive attitude.
  • Respectful, patient, and understanding toward seniors and diverse communities.
  • Ability to read and comprehend English documents.
  • Fluency in another language (Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Tamil, Greek, or French) is an asset.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and team-oriented.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure client safety by following all responsibilities and procedures outlined in the Volunteer Handbook and/or by the supervisor.
  • Will not lift clients.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) if required.

Working Environment

  • Remote, work-from-home setting.
  • Extended periods of computer work may be required.
  • May experience occasional work interruptions.

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation on SPLC policies and procedures, including COVID-19 measures, conducted by Volunteer Services.
  • IPAC Mandatory Training (for onsite positions).
  • Organizational Training for all new volunteers.
  • Role-specific orientation and training provided by the direct supervisor.

Supervision & Evaluation

  • Supervision and ongoing support provided by the Volunteer Services Coordinator and the Content Writing Team Lead.

Other Requirements

  • Vulnerable Sector Check screening (mandatory).
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a Medical Exemption Certificate (mandatory).
  • Must be 16 years or older.
  • Commitment of 1–3 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months.
