
Content Writer
Job Description:
Reporting to the Programs Manager, the Content Writer role involves writing and reviewing content of various forms for the Stigma-Free Mental Health Society. This includes, but is not limited to, online mental health resources as needed, a biweekly blog, and biweekly newsletter. Advanced writing skills are required, along with comfortability using different technological platforms, such as SharePoint, Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Canva.
Qualifications:
- Advanced writing ability
- Bachelor’s degree in equivalent field such as English, Journalism, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with creative writing
- Interest/experience in mental health is an asset
- Strong communication skills
- Strong organizational ability
- Comfortability with technology
- Understanding of mental health in rural communities is an asset
- Understanding of mental health challenges facing youth is an asset
Responsibilities and Duties
- Writing blog posts and newsletters (1,000-1,500-word pieces).
- Seeking out guest contributors for blog posts and newsletters
- Drafting interview questions for guest contributors and editing/collecting responses with them directly to create blog posts and newsletters
- Researching and writing Downloadable Resources on topics related to mental health, mental illness and stigma for students in grades 4-7 and 8-12
- Research on mental health topics using reputable sources, ensuring content is evidence-informed, and including APA-style references
- Adhering to the upload schedule for all resources
- Communication with the Programs Manager about the content and uploads, including weekly touch base meetings
- Regular review of online Toolkit(s) content and rectification of errors with Program Manager’s approval. Managing and maintaining a tracking sheet for weekly accuracy ‘sweeps’ of both online toolkits.
- Completion of various writing tasks as assigned.
These tasks can include:
- Annual Reports
- Donor Reports
- Press Releases
- Public Relations Documents
- And more based on the discretion of the Programs Manager
Requirements
General Requirements for Role:
- Strong and reliable internet connection
- Use of own technology (laptop) with ability to use Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Financial compensation: $30/hour
Hours: 30 hours/week
NOTE: This is not an employment position. This opportunity is of contract nature, and the successful contractor will be responsible for all work SafeBC premiums, CPP, EI contributions and remitting their own tax installments.
