
Community Organizer (Atlantic based, National reach)
Location: We prefer the applicant to be based in Atlantic Canada but will consider applicants with strong experience who are located elsewhere. The ideal candidate would be able to travel periodically in Atlantic Canada.
About My Climate Plan
My Climate Plan is a non-profit membership organization on a mission to create a climate safe future for all. We are a new and growing organization with a community of over 10,000 people from coast-to-coast-to-coast. We serve a membership that spans the rural-urban divide and the political spectrum with our online platform, member benefits, weekly newsletter and advocacy campaigns.
We are looking for a great new person to join our kind, thoughtful and constantly learning team. Our team includes leaders with decades of experience in climate and government leadership, advancing Indigenous rights, leading election campaigns with hundreds of thousands of supporters - and leading tech platforms that engaged millions of users and raised millions of dollars. Position Details
- Title: Community Organizer
- Reports To: Jamie Biggar, Co-Founder and Co-Creation Lead
- Hours & Compensation: Contract, $40/hour for 32 hours per week, 134 hour/month for September, October, November and December ($21,440 for these four months, a rate that would be $64,320 for a year)
- Duration: Whenever you can start in September 2025 – December 2025, with the potential for renewal as we are actively looking to secure more further funding.
- Location: Position is remote, based in Atlantic Canada with the potential for some travel within the region
Responsibilities
- Help People Engage with Decision-Makers: Hundreds of people have signed up to meet their MPs on campaigns like Don’t Let Canada Burn, Electrify Canada’s Energy Security and with the Politician Outreach Project for folks 30 and under. Helping these leaders connect with their MPs in this pivotal moment in Canadian history will be your #1 priority in this contract.
- Community + Group Building: Manage an online community to support the people who are engaging with decision-makers and then help local groups support each other through mutual aid and shared community efforts to be more resilient to climate extremes.
- Testing and Learning: Work with the rest of the My Climate Plan team, advisors, members and community to develop the membership program to make it ever more effective and valued.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:
- Leadership Background: Experience leading or serving groups in various fields—whether as a bar manager, camp leader, or similar roles—is welcome and valued.
- Connection Skills: A passion for building connections across ideological divides and a willingness to learn and grow in the role. Experience with both online community and face-to-face connect is a big plus.
- Community and/or Advocacy and/or Political Organizing Experience: Direct experience in advocacy and/or political organizing and community building is key. You believe that we need governments to act to defend our communities from climate change, people’s voices should shape governments’ decisions, and democracy in action can be beautiful.
