ROLE SUMMARY:

The Community Engagement & Development Manager builds awareness, strengthens community engagement, and grows support for The Mark Preece Family House. This role will focus on outreach, communications, donor engagement, grant support, and signature events to ensure families across our region know where to turn for care, comfort, and community during medical crises.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regional Awareness & Outreach

  • Increase visibility of The Mark Preece Family House across the regional catchment so families, referral partners, and funders are aware of services before a crisis occurs.
  • Conduct targeted outreach to referral partners, service organizations, media partners, and potential funders.
  • Develop region-specific communications & campaigns that support community awareness & funder engagement.
  • Represent the organization at selected community, sector, and funder-related events and meetings.

Local Community Engagement

  • Build meaningful connections with local businesses, corporate volunteers, and community groups to increase participation in family support programs.
  • Coordinate and support community initiatives such as our meal program, community Open Houses, and support the stewardship of partnerships with local businesses providing in-kind support and/or discounts.
  • Engage local businesses/service clubs to contribute volunteer time, in-kind donations, and grant support.

Donor & Community Partnership Development

  • Support the Executive Director in building and stewarding all new and existing donors, sponsors, businesses, and community partners.
  • Support the Executive Director in expanding the donor base through targeted outreach, community engagement, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support and grow third-party fundraising by guiding engaged stakeholders, small businesses, and community groups to plan and execute their own fundraising efforts.
  • Work with the Executive Director to implement donor stewardship strategies that ensure all supporters feel valued and connected, including personalized recognition, updates, and engagement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Fundraising Committee to align donor, sponsorship, & grant strategies.

Grant Writing & Funding Support

  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities, programs, and community impact.
  • Support the development, writing, & submission of grant applications in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Gather program data, impact stories, budgets, and outcomes to strengthen grant proposals.
  • Assist with grant reporting, stewardship, & compliance requirements to maintain strong relationships with funders.
  • Maintain a grants calendar to track deadlines, reporting requirements, and funding opportunities.

Signature Events & Community Fundraising

  • Assist with planning, promotion, and execution of signature fundraising events including Golf4Life, & Fall for Beer.
  • Coordinate event communications, marketing materials, registration tracking, logistics, volunteer support, and post-event reporting.
  • Engage & steward donors, sponsors, and attendees before, during, & after events to encourage long-term support.

Communications, Marketing & Storytelling

  • Manage & grow the organization’s digital presence, including website content, email marketing, & social media.
  • Develop compelling storytelling that highlights the impact of the mission with families, volunteers, and community.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging aligned with organizational goals and values.
  • Create and/or coordinate newsletters, reports, promotional materials, graphics, photography, and video content.
  • Track and report on engagement metrics to measure awareness, participation, and donor interest, adjusting strategies as needed.

Strategic Planning & Collaboration

  • Work with Executive Director to develop and execute action-oriented, evidence-informed engagement and communications plans that support organizational growth.
  • Collaborate closely with staff across programs to align engagement efforts.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of professionalism and confidentiality.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, nonprofit management, community development, fundraising, public relations, or a related field and/or an equivalent related experience.

Experience

  • 3–5 years experience in community engagement, nonprofit development, communications, fundraising, or a related role (combination of roles acceptable).
  • Experience supporting or leading fundraising initiatives, including special events, community fundraising, donor stewardship, or sponsorship development.
  • Experience using digital tools such as email marketing platforms, CRM/databases, social media & analytic tools.
  • Proven ability to develop and manage communications and storytelling, including social media, newsletters, website content, and promotional materials.
  • Experience in grant writing is an asset.

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to tell compelling impact stories.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
