
Community Connector
Migrant Workers Centre (MWC) is seeking a part-time Community Connector to engage with migrant workers facing abuse and unfair working conditions in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and connect them with MWC’s legal and other services, resources provided by other organizations, and other needed supports.

Migrant Workers Centre (MWC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting access to justice for migrant workers by providing legal services, education, advocacy, and policy reform. We work to support the rights and wellbeing of migrant workers through trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches. We work in solidarity with migrant workers and recognize that they are the experts on their own experience and situation.
Context for the role
MWC is seeking a part-time Community Connector to provide direct support to migrant workers in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. This is a one-year contract position. This position will involve fostering connections, providing education, and empowering workers to exercise their rights. The Community Connector will play a key role in bridging migrant workers with community resources and supporting them in emergency and transitional situations.
Responsibilities
- Build and sustain trust-based relationships with migrant workers and their families through in-person outreach at worksites and community spaces, community events, and digital communication tools such as WhatsApp.
- Support migrant workers in navigating and accessing essential services, including healthcare, education, housing, income supports, and other basic needs, using an access without fear and sanctuary-informed approach.
- Provide individualized system navigation and advocacy across complex areas including labour and employment issues, immigration processes, family law, reproductive health, counselling, and situations involving violence or abuse.
- Offer language interpretation and culturally responsive advocacy, particularly for Spanish-speaking women and families, to reduce barriers to accessing services.
- Support individuals in exploring and connecting with trauma-informed, antiracist, and gender-just mental health resources.
- Develop and maintain referral pathways with trusted community organizations, provide accompaniment to institutions as needed, and coordinate follow-up to ensure timely and appropriate support.
- Deliver rights-based education through workshops, one-on-one support, and community activities focused on labour rights, health, education for children, safety, and wellbeing.
- Respond to urgent and crisis situations, including workplace emergencies and climate-related events, by supporting safety planning and coordinating wrap-around supports for individuals and families.
- Collaborate closely with Migrant Workers Centre staff and community partners to share information, coordinate referrals, and strengthen regional service networks.
- Participate in regular clinical supervision and reflective practice to process challenging cases, support ethical work, and reduce the risk of secondary trauma.
Qualifications
- Resides in Vancouver / Lower Mainland region of BC
- At least 2 years of experience in outreach, community engagement, or related roles.
- Proficiency in Spanish, Tagalog, or other languages that are common in BC’s migrant worker community.
- Strong understanding of the challenges faced by migrant workers. Extensive experience in working with migrants with precarious immigration status and strong knowledge of Sanctuary policies and resources for migrants with precarious immigration status.
- Personal experience of migration and migrant work is considered a strong asset.
- Ability to work with a flexible schedule; migrant workers are often only available on weekends or after work hours.
- Ability to work independently and travel within their region to visit worksites, migrant workers’ residences, community events, etc. Applicant must provide their own vehicle; MWC will compensate the Community Connector for all travel expenses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new topics and information – MWC will provide training on Employment and Immigration law.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is between $29 to $32 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience. The position guarantees 17.5 hours of work per week. This is currently a one-year fixed term contract. MWC will continue seeking additional funding to gradually increase outreach capacity in the region.
