Position Summary

FSI is seeking a Communications, Events & DEI Specialist to lead communications, manage major events, and act as the organization’s DEI lead.

This hybrid role combines strategic communications, project management, and accessibility leadership to ensure all of FSI’s public messaging and events reflect our values of inclusion, belonging, and cultural safety.

The Specialist will oversee communications initiatives, promote key programs, and plan and execute the major conference and training events for the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Lead project planning, logistics, and execution of FSI’s major events, including coordination of speakers, budgets, accessibility supports, and post-event reports.

Develop and implement communications strategies that amplify FSI’s mission and initiatives.

Write, edit, and design newsletters, press releases, website content, and social media materials.

Maintain and update portions of the FSI website, ensuring accessible design (plain language, alt-text, WCAG compliance).

Oversee analytics for Mailchimp, social media, and campaigns; prepare reports for funders.

Provide organizational guidance and oversight on Accessibility, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ADEI) practices.

Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and partners to ensure all materials and events are culturally safe and inclusive.

Support the development of promotional materials, event toolkits, and branded resources.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Linguistics, Intercultural Communication, Applied Communication, or a related field.

Minimum five (5) years’ combined experience in communications, digital media, and project or event management.

Demonstrated leadership or experience in Accessibility, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ADEI) and cultural safety initiatives.

Proven ability to plan and execute conferences or multi-day events.

Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats.

Proficiency with Mailchimp, Canva, SurveyMonkey, and Microsoft 365.

Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive communication standards (plain language, WCAG 2.1, etc).

Experience working with diverse communities, including disability and intersectional identities.

Work Setting

Remote work from within British Columbia, with occasional in-person events and meetings.

Hours & Compensation

30 hours per week

$37.50 per hour plus extended health and dental benefits and paid vacation/sick leave.
