Family Councils Ontario works with long-term care residents’ families, Family Councils, and home staff across Ontario to foster positive relationships, strengthen Family Councils, and enhance the long-term care experience. As a registered charitable nonprofit funded by the Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care, we support families through consultation, education, training, and resources, working to create a safe, inclusive, and respected long-term care system.

About the Role:
We are seeking a part-time Communications & Digital Engagement Specialist. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Communications and Events, this role is perfect for a creative, adaptable communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for producing high-quality, engaging content and supporting digital outreach efforts that connect our organization with long-term care sector partners, and service users.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, schedule, and manage content across all social media platforms to grow engagement and visibility.

Prepare, design, and distribute the organization’s e-newsletters, digital campaigns, and other outreach communications.

Collaborate with internal teams to plan communications strategies, promotional campaigns, and advertising for projects and events.

Assist in creating templates, promotional materials, visual content, and multimedia (graphics, videos) to support communications initiatives.

Scan daily news resources, sector partner communications, and relevant media to identify and share timely updates with service users and stakeholders.

Liaise with sector partners to gather, curate, and disseminate relevant content.

Support website updates and maintain organized archives of digital content.

Ensure consistent brand messaging and accessibility across all platforms.

Attend regular meetings with team members to discuss project updates, brainstorm promotional strategies, and align communications efforts with organizational goals.

Adapt quickly to shifting priorities and deadlines, maintaining flexibility while ensuring high-quality outputs.

Key Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.

Proven experience in a communications or digital media role, including writing, editing, and multimedia content production.

Strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to work independently while meeting deadlines.

Proficiency with social media platforms, scheduling tools, design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe), email marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp), and CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot, WordPress).

Experience in creating templates, promotional materials, and multimedia content is an asset.

Collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills, able to pivot quickly and respond to evolving priorities.

Proficiency in French and familiarity with the nonprofit sector and/or health care sector are considered strong assets.

Position Details:

Salary: $35,000 annual salary

Benefits: Participation in the OPTrust Select pension plan (3% matched contributions) is optional. Health Spending Account is included.

Availability: Must be available to work 14 hours per week, ideally spread across 3–4 days during FCO’s standard hours (Monday–Thursday, 9 AM–5 PM). This schedule helps ensure continuous collaboration with the team and supports cohesive project delivery. Occasional overtime, travel, or evening/weekend commitments may be required.
