Communications and Operations Coordinator
PeerWorks is a membership-based organization, which represents Ontario’s consumer/survivor initiatives and peer support organizations that are run by and for persons with lived and living experience within the mental health, addiction and substance use system.
PeerWorks is a grassroots organization currently looking for a part-time Communications and Operations Coordinator. This role has primary responsibility for the administrative and program delivery activities of the organization.
We recently launched a 10-year Strategic Plan, Our Strength Is Each Other (2025 to 2035), with a clear vision for peer support in Ontario. Communications is a big part of getting there. PeerWorks staff work remotely, with some requirement to attend external stakeholder meetings.
Reporting to PeerWorks Executive Director, you will be the dedicated resource to:
- Manage correspondence, liaising with organizations, agencies, groups, members and the Executive Director to accurately respond as required
- Build and maintain a successful relationship with the membership, to identify the changing roles and needs of the community and PeerWorks members
- Building member engagement content that reflects the peer support voice, through channels like social media, member eblasts, and website updates
- Supporting the PR and marketing plan work committed to in the strategic plan (Priority 2)
- Promoting the annual conference and AGM, alongside delivery support/logistics
- Perform other duties in the interest of PeerWorks development as may be required by the Executive Director
Experience and Competencies:
- Relevant education - college, university or other related training
- Lived experience of mental health, addictions, substance use and those impacted is desirable
- Understanding the value of peer support within Ontario’s health care system while having a strong grasp of the respectful language and representation necessary to this sector
- 1-3 years of administrative delivery, preferably in a non-profit environment
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge and competence in spreadsheet, word processing and similar file type activities
- Competent in time management, record keeping and administrative processes and procedures
- Familiarity with basic design tools, such as Canva, not graphic designer level
This is a part-time remote work environment role. Some evenings are required. The annual salary for 21 hours per week ranges from $28,000–$32,000, depending on experience and benefits package selected. Laptop and cell phone are provided. Vacation entitlement is three weeks pro-rated. Health benefits begin after the three-month probationary period.
