Men’s Sheds Canada (MSC) is a national registered charity dedicated to reducing isolation and promoting
mental wellness by supporting a growing network of Men’s Sheds across the country. Our vision is a Canada
where every man feels valued and connected in his aging journey.
Position Summary
This part-time, five-month contract position will provide support in Marketing, Communications, and Fund
Development. The role requires solid experience in digital marketing, communications, and fundraising to
provide support with outreach, engagement, and fund development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fund Development (Supporting the Partnerships and Fund Development Manager) â Sponsorships: assist in research, communications, and recognition activities for existing and
potential sponsors and partners.
â Grant applications and funding proposals: assist in prospect research and preparing concept notes, letters of intent/inquiry, funding proposals, and grant applications.
â Donor Development: assist with donor communications and tracking, including donor database development
2. Marketing and Communications (Supporting the Marketing and Communications Manager) â Special Events: assist with planning and logistics for MSC special events and campaigns. (e.g.
“SHEDfest” gatherings; multi-platform International Men’s Day Campaign; MSC Research
Symposia; and other virtual and in-person events.)
â Outreach: research and update stakeholder contact lists in the areas of mental health, aging, and community organizations at national, provincial, and community levels; support the

development of communications materials and tools for PAs to use in their provincial outreach
efforts.
â SHEDhub Intranet: update/draft content in the SHEDhub community portal for Sheds, including the events calendar, content for “Digital ToolBoxes” on Marketing and
Communications, Shed Governance, Fund Development, and other topics; provide support to
Provincial Men’s Shed Associations (PAs) and individual Sheds in adopting and navigating the
SHEDhub software as needed; monitor SHEDhub discussion groups and flag issues requiring
MSC response.
â Graphic Design: using Canva, draft and/or customize marketing templates for MSC, PAs, and local Sheds, including but not limited to ads, brochures, posters, banners, social media posts,
and presentations.
â Email Marketing: assist in drafting content for MSC e-newsletters and e-campaigns to engage a variety of stakeholders including the Shed community (SHEDnews); current and potential
partners; funders, sponsors and donors; organizations in the mental health and aging fields;
research and academic organizations; government contacts, media, and others.
â Website Content: using WordPress, draft updates and blogs for the What’s New, In the News, and other sections of the MSC site; assist individual Sheds and PAs as needed in adapting
simple WordPress templates with text and images, so they can launch their own local
microsites.
â Social Media: draft posts for MSC’s Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn channels. â Organizational Communications: Triage and respond to general inquiries that come into the info@mensshedscanada.org email.
Deliverables
1. Fund Development - Assist with: â A database of at least 20 potential sponsors, including contact information and notes on alignment
with MSC goals.
â 8-10 draft sponsorship outreach emails or letters tailored to specific sponsor profiles. â 7-10 concept notes, LOIs, grant applications, or funding proposals prepared for submission to
identified opportunities.
â A grant tracking spreadsheet documenting submission dates, deadlines, contacts, and outcomes. â Regularly updated donor database with donor history, categories, and communication logs. â 3-5 donor engagement email templates or thank-you letter drafts.
2. Marketing and Communications - Assist with: â Special Events
â A contact list of vendors, venues, and guest speakers for MSC events. â Event marketing material drafts (e.g. poster, social media graphic, Eventbrite description).
â Outreach

â An updated national stakeholder list categorized by province, sector, and contact type. â A toolkit with email templates and flyers for Provincial Associations (PAs) to use in
outreach.
â SHEDhub Intranet o Updated content for at least two Digital ToolBoxes (e.g. Fund Development and Marketing). o A calendar of upcoming Shed-related events and registration details posted on SHEDhub. o A report summarizing community discussion activity and issues flagged for follow-up.
â Graphic Design (Canva) o A set of 5–10 customizable templates (ads, social posts, brochures). o At least 3 designed pieces used in active campaigns or by local Sheds.
â Email Marketing o Weekly SHEDnews e-newsletters drafted and scheduled. o Updated contact info for MSC audiences (Sheds, funders, researchers, etc.). o A content calendar for e-newsletters and campaigns.
â Website Content (WordPress) o 3–5 updates per month to the “What’s New” or “In the News” sections. o Monthly blog posts written or co-written. o Guidance or support provided to at least four local Sheds to create or update microsites.
â Social Media o 10–15 drafted posts for Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. o A monthly content calendar including captions and hashtags. o Basic analytics report on engagement and reach for recent posts.
â Organizational Communications o Updated list of “promotable” days, weeks and months across Canada, that are relevant to
Men’s Sheds (e.g. Men’s Health Month, National Seniors’ Day etc.)
o A triaged log of inquiries from the info@mensshedscanada.org inbox including resolutions or referrals.
o A standard operating procedure (SOP) for handling common inquiries.
Qualifications and Skills
1. Education & Certifications o Diploma or degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Non-profit
Management, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
o Certificate in Digital Marketing, Social Media Management, Fundraising, or Nonprofit Management is an asset.
2. Technical Skills o Proficiency in Canva or comparable graphic design software o Proficiency working day-to-day with a CRM platform (e.g. Member 365) o Proficiency with web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Intranet platforms). o Understanding of email marketing tools (e.g. Mailchimp, Constant Contact).

o Experience using Project Management tools (e.g. Monday.com, Asana). o Knowledge of Meta Business Suite an asset.
3. Work Experience o 3-5 years’ experience in Marketing, Communications, P.R., Fundraising, Event Planning o Experience working or volunteering in the nonprofit sector. o Experience working in a mission-based organization or member-based association is an
asset.
4. Soft Skills o Excellent English written and verbal communication. o Excellent organizational and project management skills. o Ability to work remotely, while also collaborating with a small team. o Adaptability and willingness to take initiative. o Attention to detail and problem-solving skills. o Knowledge of oral and written French is an asset.
Compensation & Work Schedule
â Part-time position (approximately 30 hours per week). â Compensation based on level of education and experience. â Flexible, remote work environment. â Flexible work schedule; 4 days/week, subject to change based on MSC’s operational requirements
