
Communications and Engagement Coordinator
The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery within The Department of Surgery is looking for a part-time, temporary (6-month, possibility of extension) Communications and Engagement Coordinator. Please see below for the details.
Under the general direction of the Division Head, the Communications and Engagement Coordinator supports the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital in promoting its excellence in clinical care, research, education, and community leadership. This position requires regular interaction with faculty members, staff, alumni, and external partners. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Website Management:
- Update and improve the division’s website layout, content, and design
- Ensure information is current, engaging, and reflective of divisional achievements and programs
Branding & Communications:
- Develop and implement consistent branding and messaging across all platforms
- Create and manage promotional materials, newsletters, and internal communications
Social Media & Public Presence:
- Develop a content calendar and post regularly on social media (e.g., X/Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
- Highlight divisional news, achievements, research, and events
Fundraising & Alumni Engagement:
- Support divisional fundraising initiatives and partnerships
- Coordinate outreach to alumni, donors, and community partners
Event Coordination:
- Assist/ Organize divisional social and academic events (e.g., retreats, award ceremonies, fundraising events)
- Assist with logistics, promotion, and coordination
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduating student or completion of a post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field
- Strong writing, editing, and digital media skills
- Experience with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal)
- Familiarity with social media management and content creation
- Event planning or fundraising experience is considered an asset
- Strong organizational skills, creativity, and ability to work independently
- Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset
WORK CONDITIONS
- Part-time: approximately 20 hours per week (flexible schedule)
- Hybrid work possible; some in-person attendance at events or meetings required
Compensation: $32.00 – $40.00/hr, commensurate with experience.
